Rodriguez leads new Barbados Rally Club committee

Antonio Rodriguez was elected chairman of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) at the club's Annual General Meeting on Thursday (March 21); he replaces Roger Skeete and returns to the position from which he resigned a year ago.
More than 50 club members attended the meeting, held at the Barbados Clay Target Association's clubhouse at Searles in Christ Church; voting for the club's officers and management committee was followed by lively discussion about the club's future in a meeting which lasted more than three hours.
The BRC also has a new vice-chairman, Bruce Lambert, and new secretary, Antonio DaSilva, who were elected unopposed; the treasurer remains Beverley Roett and competition secretary Richard Cummins.
Eleven members had been nominated to fill the committee's remaining six seats, from whom Tracy Catlyn, Barry Gale, Simon Gilmore, Pat Gonsalves, Clive Howell and Roger Marshall were elected. Gonsalves had been nominated as chairman, but lost out to Rodriguez in the vote.
In the absence of Roger Skeete, who was out of the island on business, the meeting was chaired by outgoing vice-chairman Roger Hill. He thanked the officers who had served the club in the year 2001-2002 and congratulated those elected to serve for the coming year. He said: "I hope that the club will enjoy a successful year and that the new committee will continue the good work done in the past to ensure a healthy future for the club."
Rodriguez, in his position as chairman of the BRC's Texaco Havoline International Stages Rally organising committee, gave a full report of progress on this year's event, slated for May 25/26, the second of the two events making up the Barbados Rally Carnival. Several changes have been made to the structure of the rally, which will provide greater stage mileage for competitors and a better return for those companies which have agreed to be co-sponsors.
