SOL RALLY BARBADOS MODIFIED CLASSES WIDE OPEN

With the return of a multiple Champion, upgrades galore and some determined International competition, the Modified classes in Sol Rally Barbados 2012 (June 9/10) promise to keep the fans entertained long after the battles for supremacy overall and in two-wheel-drive have passed through each stage.   In Modified 7 (1600-2000cc), five former Barbados Rally Club (BRC) M7 Champions will go head-to-head, with the return of Edward Corbin, who won a hat-trick of titles starting in 2003.

GIANT-KILLERS READY FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

While the battle for the podium places in Sol Rally Barbados 2012 (June 9/10) will almost certainly be the preserve of the best WRC entry in the event’s history – nine ex-works cars among a total four-wheel-drive entry of 23 - spectators will not have to look too far down the top 10 to find the highest-placed two-wheel-drive crew.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2012 ENTRY HAT-TRICK RECORD

For the third straight year, the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol Rally Barbados, has attracted a record entry. Between October and the closing date a week ago (May 14), 121 entries were posted on-line at the event’s official web site – www.rallybarbados.bb – of which 108 remain on the provisional entry list, published by the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) during a media conference today (Monday).

SOL RALLY BARBADOS HIGHLIGHT OF LOCAL SEASON

While anticipation among island fans about the record-breaking overseas invasion for Sol Rally Barbados 2012 (June 9/10) is reaching fever pitch, local competitors are concentrating on their preparations for the highlight of the season. Shell V-Power King of the Hill (June 3) and Sol RB12 – each day is a separate round – offer three chances to score points towards the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Championships.   After three rounds, it is tight at the top.

LAST REGIONAL CREWS FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

As entries for Sol Rally Barbados 2012 (June 9/10) closed this week, the final drivers from around the region who will be participating in the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International have been confirmed. They are first-timer Stan Hartling, representing the Turks & Caicos Islands, and Trinidad’s Vishal Dhanraj, who returns for his fifth consecutive year.

CURLEY NEARLY MISSES THE BOAT TO THE CARIBBEAN

Ireland’s Ronan Curley nearly missed Tuesday’s (May 8) trans-Atlantic Geest Line voyage from Portsmouth, as a last-minute gearbox problem threatened to ruin his plans to compete in Sol Rally Barbados 2012 (June 9/10) . . . and he has fellow-competitor Samuel Kelso and Ford Escort specialists Den Motorsport to thank that it didn’t.   Having followed the event in recent years, Curley and close friend Conor McMeel both decided to enter their Vauxhall-engined MkII Ford Escorts in the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

FLYING TRIP FROM KENYA TO SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Kenyans Rommy Bamrah and Harvey Jutley are shortly to make the 17,000-mile round trip from hometown Nairobi to Sol Rally Barbados 2012 (June 9/10) for their first-ever tarmac rally together, and the driver’s first event outside Kenya. They will miss two local events, but were not going to turn down the chance to replace Harvey’s UK-based brother Raj, whose work commitments mean he now can’t take up his entry.

SKEETE MAKES A POINT BEFORE SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Rallying the familiar Subaru Impreza WRC S12 in its new livery for the first time, Roger Skeete and Louis Venezia won the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Valvoline Shakedown Stages on Sunday (May 6) by just under 10 seconds from Trinidad’s John Powell. On a day of changing fortunes, Skeete won four of the 10 stages, Powell and last year’s winner Paul Bourne sharing the other six equally.
