BOURNE, SKEETE, MAYERS AND MANNING DO BATTLE
Paul Bourne carries start number 1 for the Barbados Rally Club's (BRC) first Tarmac Rally of the season, which starts at 9.00am on Sunday (April 4) at the Vaucluse Raceway. The winner of last year's event, he faces a strong challenge from three of the island's front-runners.
The Banks/Havoline/Williams Industries/Pirelli Subaru Impreza WRC, with co-driver Luis Venezia, will be chased off the line by Roger Skeete and Dave Crawford (M9 Havoline/Michelin/McEnearney Quality Ford Escort WRC), who missed last year's event, waiting on spare parts.
At start number three will be Roger Mayers/Max Ferri (M9 McEnearney Quality Inc Ford Focus WRC) - who retired from last year's event - followed by Trevor Manning/James Betts (M9 Sunbeach/Pirelli/Thorogood Footwear/Simpson Motors Rally Team Mitsubishi Evo V). Another potential top three finisher is the crew of Harold Morley and Geoffrey Goddard (M9 Sunbeach Communications Inc Subaru Impreza WRC).
The event, which will comprise 12 stages at three venues, Orange Hill, Diamond Corner and Dark Hole, is being used by the organising team as a shakedown for Rally Barbados, with officials checking systems for the International rally, which will run over the weekend of May 29/30. There will be a service halt at Vaucluse between each group of three stages; after the lunch halt, scheduled for 12.15pm, the stages will run in the reverse direction, with the finish at 4.15pm, back at Vaucluse.
Organising committee chairman Barry Gale explained: "This event is a warm-up for Rally Barbados, so we can check our systems and find any anomalies well in advance; the ASRs are almost identical to those in place for Rally Barbados, and we will be using all the same officials and rally control personnel."
In addition, the entries have been seeded in the same way as they will be for Rally Barbados, based on the potential of each driver, and the order in which they might finish the event.
