UK SUBARUS BOOST SOL RALLY BARBADOS NUMBERS

Two Subaru Imprezas new to Sol Rally Barbados (May 31/June 1) are confirmed on the growing list of overseas entries for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 25th running of its premier event, also Scotiabank King of the Hill the previous weekend (May 25). They bring to 15 the cars already listed for the event’s four-wheel-drive classes on the official web site, www.rallybarbados.net.

“WATERSHED SEASON” FOR BARBADOS MOTOR SPORT

Circuit race and rally fans in Barbados can look forward to a “watershed season” for their favourite sport in 2014, according to the island’s National Sporting Authority, the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) . . . and the months of May and June look set to break all previous records for motor sport’s contribution to the island’s vital sports-tourism product.

REGIONAL CREWS HEAD FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Regional interest in Sol Rally Barbados 2014 is growing steadily, with three more crews confirmed to join Jamaica’s Jeff Panton, the 1998 winner fighting for overall honours in his Ford Focus WRC06. David Coelho will represent Trinidad and Tobago, while the flag of the Turks & Caicos islands will be flown by Stan Hartling and Paul Horton.

"MAXIMUM ATTACK" SKEETE FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Roger ‘The Sheriff’ Skeete will be in “maximum attack” mode when he leads the home team out for Sol Rally Barbados 2014, targetting his 13th victory in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event. He will again be partnered by co-driver Louis Venezia in the Sol/Simpson Motors/Michelin Subaru Impreza WRC S12, the combination which won in 2010 and 2011.

UK REGULARS CELEBRATE AT SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Britain’s Andrew Costin-Hurley and wife Melissa are planning a triple celebration at Sol Rally Barbados 2014, their 11th visit to the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international. Since their first trip in 2003, when they got engaged during a west coast catamaran cruise, the annual Barbados expedition has become “the beacon of our year”, says the double Group B winner.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2014 4WD ENTRY WARMS UP

More than one-third of the 60-plus entries so far received for Sol Rally Barbados 2014 will compete in the event’s four-wheel-drive classes, with strong support from overseas crews. Repeat UK visitors Tom Roberts and Simon Wallis are certainly looking forward to their return . . . both were in action last Sunday (January 12) in near-freezing temperatures in the annual MGJ Brands Hatch Stages in the south of England.

ISLAND CHAMPIONS READY FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Four reigning Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Class Champions are among the first entries from the island confirmed for Sol Rally Barbados 2014 (May 31/June 1) and the previous weekend’s ‘shakedown’ event, Scotiabank King of the Hill (Sunday, May 25). As the on-line entry list goes ‘live’ today on the official web site, www.rallybarbados.net, momentum starts to build for the 25th running of the BRC’s blue riband event.

PROCTER CONFIRMED FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Britain’s Kevin Procter, favoured by island motor sport fans for his flamboyant and attacking driving style, has started his preparations for Sol Rally Barbados 2014 on a high note. Last Saturday (December 28), with regular co-driver Dave Bellerby, he won the Christmas Stages Rally in the North of England for the fifth time in six years in the Procters Coaches Subaru Impreza WRC S7.

BARBADOS JOINS WORLD MOTOR SPORT ELITE

Motor sport in Barbados was represented at the highest level this month when the sport’s world governing body, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), held its Annual General Assembly in Paris, France. President of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) Andrew Mallalieu and Vice-President John Sealy joined representatives from more than 130 countries as Jean Todt, who visited the island last August, was voted in for a second four-year term as FIA President.

PANTON TARGETS SOL RALLY BARBADOS VICTORY

Just days after chalking up his second consecutive victory in his home event, Rally Jamaica, Jeffrey Panton confirmed his entry for Sol Rally Barbados 2014 . . . and his intention of winning for the first time since 1998, when he became the event’s first winner from the wider Caribbean.
