ACTION FOR ALL AT VALVOLINE RALLY SUNDAY

As the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2013 season kicks up a gear with the Valvoline Rally on Sunday (April 28), fans are promised a weekend of action. A field of nearly 40 cars will tackle 10 stages at two venues in the north of the island, while fans can mix with competitors at Scrutineering tomorrow (Saturday) at Automotive Art, Welches.   Form man Paul Bourne (Chefette/Banks/LIME/MQI/Castrol Ford Focus WRC07), winner of all three events on the island for the year, is seeded at number one in the running order revealed at last night’s (Thursday) Briefing Meeting at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Club House, Searles, Christ Church.   At two is last year’s winner Roger Skeete (Sol/Michelin/Simpson Motors/Da Costa Mannings Auto Centre Subaru Impreza WRC S12) and three Neil Armstrong – he’s making his first appearance in a BRC Championship event this year in the Monster/Sol/Chefette/Digicel/Virgin Atlantic/Gunk/Hankook Tyres/Redline Fuels/Simpson Finance/Simpson Motors Suzuki SX4 WRC – with top two-wheel-drive seed Josh Read at six in the Stihl/Gliptone/Hankook/SDRR/Weetabix/Royal Purple/EZone Toyota Starlet.   Scrutineering at Automotive Art, Welches, will run from noon to 5.00pm; arrival times for competitors are staggered, with the Clubman, Historic and Group B classes arriving first, and the four-wheel-drive classes scheduled to arrive no later than 3.00pm. Sunday’s start will be at the same venue at 9.00am, with the first stage scheduled for 9.13am. In the morning, there will be three runs of Hangman’s Hill, two of Dark Hole; in the afternoon, Dark Hole will run three times, Hangman’s Hill twice.   While many island fans are looking forward to another encounter between Bourne, Skeete and Armstrong, who is still learning about the SX4 with every stage, many eyes will be on the two-wheel-drive battle. Read has left all in his wake so far this year, with Ian Warren (Simpson Motors/Automotive Art Suzuki Swift) his closest challenger, but both will need to keep a weather eye for Roger Mayers, who has moved up a class in the Chefette/Digicel/Pennzoil/Illusion Graphics/Hankook WR Starlet, and is this weekend reunited with Max Ferri, co-driver when he won Rally Barbados 2005 in his Ford Focus.   And, while he may not be fighting for overall 2wd honours, Trevor Manning will surely attract a lot of attention on his return to competition in the Ritz/Club Social/Armstrong Agencies/Power King Batteries/Unknown Entity/Hankook Tyres/SpringBoard Marketing Platforms/in support of Little Pink Gift BMW M3, replacing the injured Logan Watson.   Greenland Agricultural Station, St Andrew, is the Service Park for the day, also the venue for the finish, slated for 5.00pm, followed by the Prize-giving and post-event lime, starting at around 6.00pm.   VALVOLINE RALLY Provisional running order at April 26 1 Paul Bourne/Jermin Pope (WRC-1 Chefette/Banks/LIME/MQI/Castrol Ford Focus WRC07) 2 Roger Skeete/Louis Venezia (WRC-1 Sol/Michelin/Simpson Motors/Da Costa Mannings Auto Centre Subaru Impreza WRC S12) 3 Neil Armstrong/Barry Ward (WRC-1 Monster/Sol/Chefette/Digicel/Virgin Atlantic/Gunk/Hankook Tyres/Redline Fuels/Simpson Finance/Simpson Motors Suzuki SX4 WRC) 4 Roger Hill/Graham Gittens (WRC-2 Esso/Nassco/MotorMac Toyota Corolla WRC) 5 Dean Serrao/Josh Delmas (WRC-2 Sugar Ultra Lounge Subaru Impreza WRC S9) 6 Josh Read/Mark Jordan (SM10 Stihl/Gliptone/Hankook/SDRR/Weetabix/Royal Purple/EZone Toyota Starlet) 7 Ian Warren/Robert Warren (SM10 Simpson Motors/Automotive Art Suzuki Swift) 8 Geoff Noel/Nigel Reece (GpN Globe Finance/Kick Energy Drink/Sentry Insurance Brokers/Automotive Art/CIAC Air Conditioners/Mix 96.9FM/Dewalt Tools Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) 9 Andrew Mallalieu/Geoff Goddard (GpN Terra Caribbean Subaru Impreza N10) 10 Roger Mayers/Max Ferri (SM10 Chefette/Digicel/Pennzoil/Illusion Graphics/Hankook WR Starlet) 11 Brett Clarke/Chris Hoad (SM10 Western Union Citroen C2) 12 Rhett Watson/Sean Corbin (SM12 Oreo/Chips Ahoy!/Armstrong Agencies/Power King Batteries/Unknown Entity/Hankook Tyres/SpringBoard Marketing Platforms/in support of Little Pink Gift BMW M3) 14 Brian Gill/Ryan Wood (SM12 Coca Cola BMW M3) 15 Ralph White/Tony Pile (SM10 Barbados Villa Services/Island Safari/Sun General Insurance/Amsoil Toyota Starlet) 16 Andrew Jones/Alex Whitehead (SM11 Lucozade/AP Jones Pharmacy Ford Escort MkII) 17 Cliff Roett/Joshua Plaza (SM10 Paulo’s Churasco do Brasil/Nassco/Mark’s Auto Spares/Roett’s Garage Toyota Starlet) 18 Geoffrey Ullyett/Jason King (GpB Ullyett's Machine Shop/Algae-X/MG America Datsun 120Y) 19 Trevor Manning/Derek Edwards (SM12 Ritz/Club Social/Armstrong Agencies/Power King Batteries/Unknown Entity/Hankook Tyres/SpringBoard Marketing Platforms/in support of Little Pink Gift BMW M3) 20 Daryl Clarke/Russell Brancker (M7 Amir’s Fresh Chicken/Ellco/Mum’s Pasta/P & N Hardware/Robert’s Manufacturing Honda Civic) 21 Norman Catwell/Dario Hoyte (M7 Ellesmere Quarries/John Hardman Engineering/Elite Transmissions Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk3) 22 Freddie Gale/Kyle Proverbs (M7 Gale’s Hatcheries/Redline Fuels/Nassco/Precision Auto Toyota Corolla RunX) 23 Jeremy Sisnett/Justin Sisnett (M7 Ford Fiesta ST) 24 Sean Field/Darnley Rayside (M7 Field Insurance Brokers/Beacon Insurance/Castrol/Landscapes in Harmony/AM Realty/Ackee Tree Restaurant Peugeot 306 GTi6) 25 Paul Horton -
