British Bike Champions head for Barbados Festival of Speed

Former British Superbike Champion Tommy Hill and multiple British Supersport Champion Stuart Easton are the first British bike racers confirmed for the inaugural Barbados Festival of Speed at Bushy Park on May 8. They will join three-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton in making a spectacular high-speed contribution to the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the island’s Independence.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS TRIP FOR IRISH VOLUNTEERS

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is renewing its partnership with the Circuit of Ireland, one of the world’s oldest rallies, which marks its 85th Anniversary this year. In association with the island’s Tourism Development Corporation (TDC), the BRC is again offering two Irish motor sport volunteers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to enjoy the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol Rally Barbados (June 3-5).

ALLEYNE AND O’NEAL WIN MARCH SAFARI

Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal made an excellent start to their title defence when the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari & Safari Novice Championships got under way with the March Safari last Sunday (March 6). They won both routes in the south-east corner of the island in the Simpson Motors/Shell Spirax/Shell Rimula/Maxxis Isuzu D-Max to end the day 282 penalties to the good.

IRISH ESCORT TRIO HEAD TO SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Three crowd-pleasing Ford Escort MkIIs from Ireland have been added to the growing entry list confirmed for Sol Rally Barbados 2016 (June 3 to 5) on the official web site, www.rallybarbados.net. While Enda McCormack will be remembered by the island’s large contingent of rear-wheel-drive fans from his visit to Sol RB13, Damien Hagan and Jim McKenna are new to the event, and are proof positive of the power of ‘word of mouth’.

CHEFETTE TO SPONSOR MUDDOGS FOR FOURTH YEAR

Chefette Restaurants has been confirmed as title sponsor of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) MudDogs Safari & Safari Novice Championships for the fourth year, continuing its enthusiastic backing for the series, which began with the awarding of Novice trophies in 2010. Competitors are now making preparations for the new season, which kicks off with Sunday’s (March 6) March Safari.

Maloney and Peyrau win Suzuki Challenge Series titles

Sean Maloney and Trinidad & Tobago’s Ryan Peyrau were crowned Champions of the SR3 Cup and Swift Cup respectively when the inaugural Suzuki Challenge Series came to an action-packed conclusion at Bushy Park Barbados on Saturday (February 27). Maloney won both the SR3 Summer Series and Winter Cup, while Peyrau shared honours in the Swift Cup with Summer Series Champion, Jamaica’s David Summerbell Jnr.

WORSWICK PREPARES FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Britain’s Nigel Worswick is stretching the legs of his Ford Escort WRC on the Live Rally Stage at this weekend’s Race Retro (February 26-28) as a final test in preparation for shipping it across the Atlantic Ocean to compete in Sol Rally Barbados 2016. Europe’s leading show for historic motor sport enthusiasts is staged annually at Stoneleigh Park in Kenilworth, a few miles outside Coventry, formerly one of the main manufacturing centres of the British motor industry.

BARBADOS RALLY CLUB OPTIMISTIC FOR NEW SEASON

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is approaching the 2016 season in a mood of optimism, with revised Vehicle Regulations about to come into force and members anticipating continued high levels of competition. This was the message from Chairman Mark Hamilton in his annual report at last night’s (Thursday) AGM at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Clubhouse at Searles, Christ Church.

Inaugural Suzuki Challenge Series concludes on Saturday

 

The inaugural Suzuki Challenge Series will be settled this Saturday (February 27) at Bushy Park Barbados, as drivers from around the region do battle for the final time in the first season of this innovative one-make championship. Races will start from the Southern Grid, right in front of pit lane, which promoted close-fought action during last month’s Radical International.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS “A BIG PART OF OUR LIVES”

British driver Andrew Costin-Hurley’s entry for Sol Rally Barbados 2016 marks his 13th visit to the island for an event he describes as “a big and colourful part of our lives”. This year, he is reunited with co-driver Rob Brook, with whom he achieved a personal best in Sol RB14 – 21st overall, plus his third class win – and also returns after a comprehensive rebuild of his unique Ford Puma Evo.
