Entries close tomorrow (June 1) for the Esso Courtesy Garage 50th Anniversary June Safari, the final event in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) month of celebrations to mark its half-century. Taking the Club right back to its roots in navigational rallying, the event runs off over the weekend of June 9/10.

BARBADOS RALLY CLUB CELEBRATES 50 YEARS

Eight long-serving members of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) were honoured for their contribution to the development of the Club and motor sport in the island during the BRC’s 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Sherbourne Conference Centre on Saturday night (May 12).

BOURNE AND HAMILTON TIED FOR LEAD

Paul Bourne and Mark Hamilton are the joint leaders of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Driver’s Championship after two of the eight rounds . . . while an increase of more than 20 per cent in the number of entries over the same period last year is further evidence of motor sport’s growing popularity.

BOURNE EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP ADVANTAGE

Victory in Sunday’s (April 22) Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Carnival Warm-Up Tarmac has given Paul Bourne a healthy lead in this year’s Texaco BRC Rally Championship; with co-driver Stuart Maloney in the Subaru Impreza WRC, Bourne was fastest on all but one of the nine stages run, winning by a margin of 25 seconds . . . and now leads the Championship standings by 12 points.

QUALITY AND QUANTITY FOR SUNDAY RALLY

Reigning Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Champion Paul ‘Surfer’ Bourne is well placed to extend his lead in this year’s Texaco BRC Rally Championship, following confirmation that his closest challenger in the standings, Trevor ‘Electric Micey’ Manning, has withdrawn from Sunday’s (April 22) Carnival Warm-Up Tarmac Rally.

The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Carnival Warm-Up Tarmac Rally on Sunday (April 22) has attracted an entry described by organisers as “phenomenal”, promising a day of superb entertainment for the many thousands of fans who are expected to make their way to the island’s south-east parishes.

RECORD SUPPORT FOR 50TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has secured record levels of sponsorship for its 2007 programme of events as it prepares to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its founding in 1957. Familiar sponsors of the 21st century are being joined by some businesses whose support in the early days of motor sport was instrumental in its steady growth into the biggest spectator sport in the island.

MANNING PREDICTS HOT ACTION IN 2007

Trevor ‘Electric Micey’ Manning is geared up for a season of hot motor sport competition in 2007. Despite losing out to Paul Bourne in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) March Gravel Stages last Sunday (March 11), Manning remains upbeat about the prospects for the season.
Speaking mid-week, he said: “I think this is going to be a fantastic season. Paul and I are right on it, and I’m looking forward to the competition. Its one-nil to Paul at the moment, after last weekend, but I’m aiming to turn that round in the weeks to come, starting at Luke Hill.

BARBADOS RALLY CLUB MEMBERS IN BOUYANT MOOD

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has embarked on its 50th Anniversary year on a positive note, members learned from Chairman Mark Hamilton at the Club’s Annual General Meeting at the BCTSA Clubhouse at Searles, Christchurch, last Tuesday evening (February 27).

QUEST TO FIND NEW RALLY CHAMPION BEGINS

The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 50th Anniversary season looks set to be a vintage one, with a quality entry received for the BRC March Gravel Stages, the opening round of the Texaco BRC Rally Championship this Sunday (March 11); the first rally action in the island for more than four months, the event is eagerly anticipated by competitors and spectators alike.
