British contenders looking forward to new stages

Britain’s Rob Swann, the leading European contender of recent years, arrives in the island next Monday determined to win Sol Rally Barbados 2020. He posted his on-line entry two days before the closing date after constant juggling with Covid testing, travel and quarantine arrangements for himself and his Welsh co-driver and friend Darren Garrod, who faced even more complicated protocols to get from the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, where he was competing last weekend.

Organisers praise efforts of overseas crews to compete

Confirmation today (October 6) of the participation in Sol Rally Barbados 2020 of Scotland’s Fraser Louden and George Sherman of the United States has boosted the four-wheel-drive entry for this month’s 31st running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event. Along with other overseas visitors, they have earned praise from the organisers for the efforts they are making to travel to the island against the background of the restrictions required by Covid-19 protocols.

Regional entries Horton & Coelho boost R5 class to seven

Double British Rally Champion Matt Edwards will return to the Caribbean next month to compete in Sol Rally Barbados 2020 and continue his mentoring role as co-driver to Turks & Caicos Rally Team member Paul Horton in his Ford Fiesta R5. Confirmation today (September 28) of Trinidad & Tobago’s David Coelho’s entry in his Fiesta brings the number of entries in the island’s burgeoning FIA R5 class to a record seven.

KEN BLOCK REAFFIRMS SOL RALLY BARBADOS ENTRY

The organisers of Sol Rally Barbados have today (September 24) confirmed Ken Block’s participation in this year’s event, postponed from June until October 31/November 1 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. With around six million followers on each of Facebook and Instagram, Block is one of the most-recognised names in global motor sport, with a huge boost in coverage promised for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event as the island struggles to rebuild its tourism industry.

Winner heaps praise on setter’s “awesome rally”

For the second time in as many events, new names have been added to the winners’ roster in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship after Willie Hinds and Wayne Manning won last Sunday’s (September 20) Chefette Summer Safari. There was more good news for Chris King, too: having claimed his first victory in July’s opening round, he and Warrick Eastmond won the Driver Challenge which brought last weekend’s Safari to a close.

Procter wins in UK, with island connections on podiums

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has confirmed a radical rethink of all former conventions in planning the route for the delayed Sol Rally Barbados 2020, changes made possible in part by the continuing effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Highlights of the two-day event will include the longest special stage in recent memory, a move away from the tradition of Saturday stages in the north of the island and Sunday’s in the south-east and a journey through all but one of the island’s parishes.

MudDogs return to action Sunday

Barbados Rally Club (BRC) stalwart Biddy Barber returns to competition after a long break this weekend, when she lines up for the Chefette Summer Safari. Having competed many a time in navigational events with son Brett, Sunday (September 20) will see her first outing in the Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship with her 12-year-old grandson Austin.
