MUDDOGS PREPARE FOR SEPTEMBER SAFARI

After a three-month summer break, the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) off-roaders are fettling their machines in readiness to rejoin battle in the MudDogs Safari Championship and the Chefette MudDogs Safari Novice Championship. The fourth of five rounds for the season is the September Safari on Sunday, September 16.   With two rounds to go, the winners of the season’s opening event, the Chefette March Safari, Chris Armstrong and Wayne Clarke, respectively lead the overall Driver and Navigator standings, with Ryan Corbin and Dustin Edwards just two points behind.

BARBADOS IS SMALL, BUT BIG IN MOTOR SPORT

Despite being a tiny island in the Caribbean, Barbados has a secure future in world motor sport. So says Jean Todt, the President of the sport’s world governing body, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), whose remarks came during a recent visit to the island as part of a tour of FIA member countries in the region.

BOURNE WINS SUMMER NIGHTS TARMAC STAGES

The island’s motor sport volunteers have been praised by competitors and organisers this week, following last Saturday’s (August 11) Barbados Rally Club Summer Nights Tarmac Stages, which was run in worsening conditions in the north of the island. Despite the Club’s best efforts, the event was abandoned after four of the six planned stages.

SUMMER NIGHTS TARMAC STAGES ON SATURDAY

All the star players in the battle for the prestigious title Champion Driver in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Championship are in action this weekend. Nearly 30 crews are listed on the provisional running order for the BRC Summer Nights Tarmac Stages, which runs off on Saturday, August 11.   The seventh of 10 rounds, it comes at a crucial time in the Club’s 2012 calendar, with only a handful of points spread across the leading contenders; only two of the top 10 are missing for what promises to be an evening of action and entertainment.

CLARKE EASES AHEAD IN VIRGIN ATLANTIC POINTS

With six of 10 rounds run in the 2012 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships, Modified 7 leader Daryl Clarke (Honda Civic) has increased his lead in the Overall title chase, thanks to a perfect score over the two weekends of Sol Go Further King of the Hill and Sol Rally Barbados 2012.   Meanwhile, the BRC is enjoying increased competitor numbers – 63 local drivers have participated in Virgin Atlantic Championship events so far this season, an increase of 11 per cent over last year’s total at the same point of 57.

RECORD EQUALLED AT SOL GO FURTHER JUNE SAFARI

Leslie Alleyne claimed a record-equalling fifth victory in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) longest-standing event, when he won the Sol Go Further 55th Anniversary June Safari at the weekend (June 23/24). Meanwhile, his Navigator in the Simpson Motors Isuzu D-Max, Chris O’Neal, added the 69th name to the roll of honour of the region’s oldest motor sport event with a continuous history.

SOL GO FURTHER BACKS ANNIVERSARY JUNE SAFARI

The Sol Group has expanded its partnership with the Barbados Rally Club (BRC), just days after the record-breaking success of Sol Rally Barbados. During a well-attended product launch this evening (June 21), it was confirmed that this weekend’s running of the Club’s longest-standing event will be titled the Sol Go Further 55th Anniversary June Safari (June 23/24).

MUDDOGS SET FOR 55TH ANNIVERSARY JUNE SAFARI

With the dust barely settled after the record-breaking success of last weekend’s Sol Rally Barbados 2012, the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event, preparations are in high gear for the 55th Anniversary June Safari. Taking the Club right back to its roots in navigational rallying, the event runs off over the weekend of June 23/24.   The successful running of the first June Rally on June 16, 1957 was the catalyst to the founding of the BRC, and it remains the oldest-established motor sport event in the region with a continuous history.

BIRD FINALLY TICKS SOL RALLY BARBADOS BOX

At his fifth attempt, former UK National Rally Champion Paul Bird finally won Sol Rally Barbados at the weekend (June 9/10), describing the experience as “the hardest and probably the best I’ve ever driven since I started rallying.” With a record 99 crews from 15 nations participating in the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, the organising Barbados Rally Club is celebrating another successful event.
