New for 2018

• the Ceremonial Start on Friday, June 2 (6.30pm) moves to the Vaucluse Raceway and, this year, it will lead straight in to the first timed stage . . . immediately! Cars will run in reverse order of seeding, side-by-side in pairs; each crew will be interviewed on the Ceremonial Start ramp to the south of the startline, before moving forward to tackle two laps of the RallySprint track, a distance of 5.80kms. It is a challenging start to the event, as was demonstrated during last year’s BRC Winter Rally, and requires real concentration

Garrod leads co-driver connections in British Rally Championship

Three more overseas crews confirmed today (May 4) for Sol Rally Barbados 2018 emphasise one of the core values of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC), the importance of family to the sustainable future of motor sport. A key pillar of the island’s sports-tourism product, Sol RB continues year-on-year to deliver visitors who combine the event with a family holiday. Sol RB18 will run from Friday to Sunday, June 1-3, with The Rally Show and Flow King of the Hill (KotH) the previous weekend, May 26/27.

Mallalieu heads for CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy

The Caribbean will be represented in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy for the first time when reigning Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Junior Champion Adam Mallalieu makes his debut on the international stage at Salbris in France this weekend (May 3-6). The 14-year-old Harrison College student joins 50 other rising stars from 40 countries hoping to follow in the wheel-tracks of 2011 Academy Champion Charles Leclerc, who scored his first points in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship last Sunday (April 29) when he finished sixth for Sauber in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

SAFARI WINNER CHAMPION FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

All roads lead to Dover, as UK crews cover 12,000 miles

Ryan Champion, who became the first British winner of the East African Safari Classic Rally last November in a Porsche 911 with owner Richard Jackson, is today confirmed for Sol Rally Barbados 2018, following a successful shakedown at the Chris Birkbeck Rally School yesterday (Monday). Sol RB18 will run from Friday to Sunday, June 1-3, with The Rally Show and Flow King of the Hill (KotH) the previous weekend, May 26/27.

Podium finish for Procter as UK rallying makes history

With the United Kingdom facing another cold snap - sub-zero temperatures are forecast again in the coming days - rally crews across the country are turning their thoughts to warmer climes, and to Sol Rally Barbados 2018. As next week’s deadline approaches for cars to be delivered to the south coast port of Dover, new home of Geest Line’s shipping operations, the overseas entry has reached 35, with further announcements to come.

Jamaica’s Jeff Panton and Mike Fennell Jnr won the Carter’s Pit-Stop Stages on Sunday (April 22) in their Rubis/Sandals Barbados/KIG Ford Focus WRC06, an ideal start to the reigning Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Champion Driver’s title defence. The final test before Flow King of the Hill and Sol Rally Barbados, the 10-stage, 42-kilometre event put the 38 starters through their paces, the weather also playing its part in the challenge.

Narrowest margin of victory for five years

Ryan Corbin and Dustin Edwards won Saturday’s (April 14) Chefette April Safari in the Corbins Catering Services/Mahogany Ridge Toyota Hilux, beating the similar pick-up of Chris Armstrong and Wayne Clarke by just four penalty points, the narrowest margin of victory in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) navigational championship for five years.

The 40-car running order confirmed at last night’s (Thursday) Briefing Meeting at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Clubhouse, Searles, Christ Church, includes eight regional and international crews as competitors ramp up their preparations for Sol Rally Barbados 2018.

Carter’s Pit-Stop Stages opens 2018 BRC season

Former Rallycross Champion Andy Scott confirmed today (April 18) that he will drive a newly-acquired Ford Fiesta R5 in Sol Rally Barbados 2018, having had such “a great experience” on his debut last year in a rented Ford Escort MkII. An excited Scott landed in the island yesterday (Tuesday) from his home in Dumfries, Scotland, just 72 hours after the Fiesta arrived at the Bridgetown Port, and will drive the car in anger for the first time in Sunday’s (April 22) Carter’s Pit Stop Stages.

Racegoers to remember John ‘Tiny’ Harrison next month

A legend of island motor sport will be remembered by racegoers on Sunday, May 6, when Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI) stages the John ‘Tiny’ Harrison Memorial Race Meet at the St Philip facility. The race programme will feature the second of four rounds of BPMSI’s 2018 Championship, which is currently being led by former bike racer Devan McCartney in his Honda CRX.
