CHAMPION DRIVER TITLE CHASE RESUMES SUNDAY

For the front-runners battling for the prestigious Champion Driver title in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2012 Virgin Atlantic Championship, it is all hands on deck for Sunday’s (September 23) BRC Autumn Gravel Sprint, a double-header at the popular Black Bess course in the northern parish of St Peter.   At a time of year when some classes are not fully-subscribed, resulting in a lower points haul for those competitors who do turn out, ensuring the minimum three starters is vital for those who stand a chance of claiming the big prize . . .

ARMSTRONG AND CLARKE WIN SHELBURY SAFARI

Winners of the opening round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2012 MudDogs Safari Championship back in March, Chris Armstrong and Wayne Clarke (Toyota Hilux), added a second victory to their tally on Sunday (September 16), when they defeated all-comers - and the elements - in the Shelbury Construction September Safari.

VIRGIN ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP STILL WIDE OPEN

With three rounds to run in the 2012 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships, the chase for the Champion Driver title is far from over. While Modified 7 leader Daryl Clarke (Honda Civic) is hot favourite to win the Overall title, thanks to a perfect score so far, battle resumes on Sunday (September 23) with the BRC Autumn Gravel Sprint, a double-header at the popular Black Bess course in the northern parish of St Peter.

MUDDOGS ON THEIR WAY TO A CENTURY

The total number of participants in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2012 MudDogs Safari Championship and the Chefette MudDogs Safari Novice Championship is fast approaching 100, with six new names included on the entry list published today for Sunday’s (September 16) fourth of five rounds, the Shelbury Construction September Safari.

MUDDOGS PREPARE FOR SEPTEMBER SAFARI

After a three-month summer break, the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) off-roaders are fettling their machines in readiness to rejoin battle in the MudDogs Safari Championship and the Chefette MudDogs Safari Novice Championship. The fourth of five rounds for the season is the September Safari on Sunday, September 16.   With two rounds to go, the winners of the season’s opening event, the Chefette March Safari, Chris Armstrong and Wayne Clarke, respectively lead the overall Driver and Navigator standings, with Ryan Corbin and Dustin Edwards just two points behind.

BARBADOS IS SMALL, BUT BIG IN MOTOR SPORT

Despite being a tiny island in the Caribbean, Barbados has a secure future in world motor sport. So says Jean Todt, the President of the sport’s world governing body, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), whose remarks came during a recent visit to the island as part of a tour of FIA member countries in the region.

BOURNE WINS SUMMER NIGHTS TARMAC STAGES

The island’s motor sport volunteers have been praised by competitors and organisers this week, following last Saturday’s (August 11) Barbados Rally Club Summer Nights Tarmac Stages, which was run in worsening conditions in the north of the island. Despite the Club’s best efforts, the event was abandoned after four of the six planned stages.

SUMMER NIGHTS TARMAC STAGES ON SATURDAY

All the star players in the battle for the prestigious title Champion Driver in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Championship are in action this weekend. Nearly 30 crews are listed on the provisional running order for the BRC Summer Nights Tarmac Stages, which runs off on Saturday, August 11.   The seventh of 10 rounds, it comes at a crucial time in the Club’s 2012 calendar, with only a handful of points spread across the leading contenders; only two of the top 10 are missing for what promises to be an evening of action and entertainment.

CLARKE EASES AHEAD IN VIRGIN ATLANTIC POINTS

With six of 10 rounds run in the 2012 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships, Modified 7 leader Daryl Clarke (Honda Civic) has increased his lead in the Overall title chase, thanks to a perfect score over the two weekends of Sol Go Further King of the Hill and Sol Rally Barbados 2012.   Meanwhile, the BRC is enjoying increased competitor numbers – 63 local drivers have participated in Virgin Atlantic Championship events so far this season, an increase of 11 per cent over last year’s total at the same point of 57.
