Record competitor numbers for BADD Round 3

The Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) attracted the largest-ever entry in its seven-year history when 54 competitors faced the starter at Bushy Park on August 20. Many of the racers in Launch Control: Round 3 were newcomers, who made the transition from the extremely-successful Practice Day run on the previous Sunday, while all eight class-winners from Round 2 in May had taken advantage of BADD’s generous offer of free entry for Round 3.

Winter Champion Jeffrey’s 8,000-mile return to the SR3 Cup

Reigning SR3 Cup Winter Champion Kristian Jeffrey will return to the Suzuki Challenge Series at Bushy Park Barbados next weekend (September 2/3) at the Williams Industries International Race Meet. The 28-year-old Guyanese driver is squeezing an 8,000-mile trans-Atlantic round trip in between rounds five and six of the UK Radical Challenge Championship, which he has been contesting to broaden his racing experience.

Gregg leads regional invasion for CMRC International

Jamaica’s Kyle Gregg is targeting a new Bushy Park Barbados lap record as he heads into round three of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) at the Williams Industries International Race Meet (September 2/3). Races for all five CMRC categories on two and four wheels are the headline events on the 25-race programme organised by Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI), which will welcome more than 20 racers from six regional territories.

Largest Entry Ever for Launch Control 3

The Barbados Association of Dragsters and Drifters resumes the 2017 drag race season on August 20 with Launch Control 3.  The event will be one-eighth mile drag racing held at Bushy Park Circuit.  Practice begins at 1:00 PM, followed by Qualifying at 2:30 PM and culminating with Eliminations and Grudges from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

FIA President Todt praises island motor sport fraternity

President of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Jean Todt heaped praise on the island’s motor sport fraternity shortly before he left Barbados on Tuesday (August 8) after a one-day visit in his capacity as the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety. Speaking to the media at Bushy Park, he said: “In Barbados, a small country of less than 300,000 population, there are a lot of skilled people with energy and passion, which makes me very happy.”

UN Special Envoy for Road Safety confident after island visit

The urgent need to reduce fatalities and life-changing injuries on the roads of Barbados was the focus of discussions at the highest level on Tuesday (August 8), during a visit by the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt. After meeting key stakeholders, including the Prime Minister, the Hon Freundel Stuart, who is Chair of the Barbados National Road Safety Council (BNRSC), Todt said: I have the assurance that things are going to change and I know that it can happen.”

PANTON LEADS RALLY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

After a dominant run of four straight WRC class wins, Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton is the first competitor from the four-wheel-drive classes to lead the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Champion Driver title chase at the half-way stage since 2011. With four of seven rounds run, he is three points ahead of SuperModified 1 class leader Neil Corbin, while four more drivers are within 10 points of his total of 75.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2018 DATES ANNOUNCED

An unprecedented level of interest from both competitors and spectators has encouraged the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) to move earlier than ever before to announce the dates for the next edition of its premier event: Sol Rally Barbados 2018 will run from June 1 to 3, with Flow King of the Hill the previous Sunday (May 27), while on-line entries will open on the official web site - www.rallybarbados.net – on October 1, 2017.

Bangers back to entertain at Barbados Festival of Speed

Fresh from a successful outing at Ipswich SpedeWeekend at the Foxhall Heath Stadium a few days ago (July 1/2), the Dreamers Banger Racing Team have confirmed their participation in the second Barbados Festival of Speed on Saturday, October 14. The Champions of oval racing join former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button and the spectacular Twister Aerobatics Team on the growing list of acts confirmed for the second BFoS at Bushy Park Barbados.

Walcott third different leader of BPMSI Champion Driver points

Andre Walcott (Courts iFinance/M-Grafix/Courts Optical Suzuki Swift) has become the third different leader this year in the chase for Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc’s (BPMSI) Champion Driver title, following round three of the 2017 Championship last Saturday (July 1). He moves ahead of Adrian Bailey, who had taken the lead in May, ousting Devan McCartney, who emerged on top after BPMSI’s opening race meet in March.
