From Australasia to North America, rally teams have been making final preparations for Sol Rally Barbados 2016, as shipping dates draw near. New Zealand rallying legend Mike Marshall bade farewell to his Peugeot 106 S16 on Wednesday (April 13), as it left the Port of Auckland on the first leg of its 20,000-mile round trip to the Caribbean.

Banger Champions head for Barbados Festival of Speed

Sixteen purpose-built Micro Banger race cars left Portsmouth on the English south coast last Tuesday (April 5) on a Geest Line freighter heading for the Caribbean. They will be raced by some of the most successful - and most entertaining - stars of UK Banger Racing at the inaugural Barbados Festival of Speed at Bushy Park on May 8.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS CONFIRMS PANTON AND SKEETE

Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton, winner of Sol Rally Barbados 2015, and local rallying legend Roger Skeete, who has won 13 times in the event’s 26-year history, were both confirmed today (April 8) for this year’s edition of the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, which will run from Friday to Sunday, June 3-5.

AUSTIN TICKS SOL RALLY BARBADOS OFF BUCKET LIST

Competing in Sol Rally Barbados has been on English electrician and clubman rally driver Stuart Austin’s bucket list for years . . . and he will finally make the trip in 2016. A member of the UK’s Southern Car Club (SCC), he had learned of the event through the promotions organised by the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) at Rallye Sunseeker, organised by SCC for three decades.

Hat-tricks as BPMSI launches 2016 Championship

Drivers and bikers claimed race-winning hat-tricks over the Easter weekend as Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI) kicked off its 2016 Championship at the Glassesco Valvoline John 'Tiny' Harrison Memorial Race Meet (March 26 & 28) at Bushy Park. Maurita Forde made history as the first female biker to race at the redeveloped facility, a record number of bikes - more than ever outside the CMRC - turned out to race and Brook ‘Unique’ Miller claimed a new Bike Lap Record.

Parkinson and Parris join Suzuki Challenge Series winner’s row as Wood takes early lead

Jason Parkinson and newcomer Arron Parris joined the Suzuki Challenge Series Swift Cup roll of honour at Bushy Park Barbados over the Easter weekend, but Ryan Wood was the star of the show, with two pole positions, three race wins and three fastest laps. Stuart Maloney dominated the SR3 Cup, with a hat-trick of victories.

FAMILY HONOURS FATHER AT SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Members of the Farnborough District Motor Club, based in the southern English county of Hampshire, will compete in Sol Rally Barbados 2016 to honour the memory of a club stalwart. Lifelong motor sport enthusiast Maurice May died last year before fulfilling his own dream of celebrating his 70th birthday by competing in the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.
