Early start for Barbados Motoring Federation 2019 season

The opening round of the inaugural Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy (CJKAT) will launch the Barbados Motoring Federation’s 2019 (BMF) motorsport calendar earlier than in recent years, just two weeks into January. Nearly 50 events to be organised by the BMF’s seven sporting Member Clubs are listed on the 2019 Calendar, published today (December 5), and with at least one event in every month of the year.

Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy launches for 2019

Regional kart racers who dream of following in Lewis Hamilton’s wheel-tracks will have a chance to prove themselves against their regional peers when the Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy (CJKAT) is launched in 2019. Open to racers aged from 11 to 15 selected by their home country’s motorsport governing bodies, the inaugural series will be run at Bushy Park Barbados over three weekends from January to March.

Jamaican is Champion Driver elect with 100 percent win rate

Jeffrey Panton and Michael Fennell Jnr (Ford Focus WRC06) maintained their 100 percent win rate in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2018 Driver’s and Class Championships in the final round on Saturday (November 24). Even before celebrating victory in the Tivoli Winter Rally, however, the Jamaican was quick to commiserate with Britain’s Rob Swann, whom Panton described as “the better driver today”.

Roger Mayers returns to action; ‘Pit Bull’ back as Zero Car

Seeded at number one for Saturday’s (November 24) Tivoli Winter Rally, Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton and Michael Fennell Jnr (Ford Focus WRC06) head a list of 10 overseas crews on the 40-car entry for the final round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2018 Driver’s and Class Championships. Ten special stages, five each in daylight then after dark, promise some tight action to end the season, with the Champion Driver title chase and all but two of the 12 class battles still unresolved.

PLATINUM MOTORS TO SPONSOR TIVOLI WINTER RALLY

Panton and Swann among early entries for Rally Club finale

Platinum Motors, which has recently been appointed the local distributor for SsangYong, is to sponsor the final round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Drivers and Class Championships on Saturday (November 24). The Tivoli Winter Rally, named for the South Korean manufacturer’s small SUV, will run from day into night, with 10 special stages at two venues in the south-east corner of the island.

Team Barbados finishes second in CMRC 2018

Team Barbados successfully defended its second place in the Country Championship standings when the 2018 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) drew to a close at South Dakota in Guyana last weekend (November 10/11). Kurt Thompson was the top-scoring Bajan on the day, with a hat-trick of podium finishes in Group 2, while Mark Maloney ended the season as Champion in the new Group 5.

MUDDOGS SEASON SETTLED AT NASSCO SAFARI

Tie-break titles for Driver Alleyne & Navigator Croney

Leslie Alleyne has won a record sixth consecutive Drivers crown in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship, which was settled at the Nassco November Safari last Sunday (November 11). Andrew Croney is the Champion Navigator for the second time, having won the title as a Novice in 2006, while the Club’s tie-break rules were needed to resolve both titles after a hotly-contested season in which established driver-navigator partnerships were broken up on more than one occasion.

Stuart Maloney wins inaugural Radical Caribbean SR3 Cup

Barbadian Stuart Maloney has won the new-for-2018 Radical Caribbean SR3 Cup, title success a long time coming for the only driver to have contested all 73 SR3 Cup races since March 2014. Despite finishing only one of last Sunday’s (November 11) three races at South Dakota in Guyana, he had a sufficient advantage to hold off his brother Mark and Trinidad & Tobago teenager Isa Deen in the three-way showdown to become the first regional Champion.

Sol Rally Barbados ‘shakedown’ moves to Stewarts Hill

In the first announcement about its plans for next year’s 30th running of its premier event, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has confirmed that Flow King of the Hill will move to Stewarts Hill in St Philip. Run on the Sunday before the main event since 2008, KotH plays a key role in seeding the running order for Sol Rally Barbados, and the change of venue has already found favour with Britain’s Rob Swann, who describes it as “a great spectator stage, which has a bit of everything.”

Nassco November Safari brings the season to a close

The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) most accomplished navigational rallying experts will team up for the first time as Driver and Navigator when the Club’s 2018 Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship reaches its climax on Sunday (November 11). Leslie Alleyne and Wayne Clarke, who share nine Championship titles and 15 victories in the iconic June Rally between them, are entered for the Nassco November Safari in the former’s regular Simpson Motors/Shell Spirax/Shell Rimula/Maxxis Isuzu D-Max.
