PROCTER CONFIRMED FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Britain’s Kevin Procter, favoured by island motor sport fans for his flamboyant and attacking driving style, has started his preparations for Sol Rally Barbados 2014 on a high note. Last Saturday (December 28), with regular co-driver Dave Bellerby, he won the Christmas Stages Rally in the North of England for the fifth time in six years in the Procters Coaches Subaru Impreza WRC S7.

BARBADOS JOINS WORLD MOTOR SPORT ELITE

Motor sport in Barbados was represented at the highest level this month when the sport’s world governing body, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), held its Annual General Assembly in Paris, France. President of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) Andrew Mallalieu and Vice-President John Sealy joined representatives from more than 130 countries as Jean Todt, who visited the island last August, was voted in for a second four-year term as FIA President.

PANTON TARGETS SOL RALLY BARBADOS VICTORY

Just days after chalking up his second consecutive victory in his home event, Rally Jamaica, Jeffrey Panton confirmed his entry for Sol Rally Barbados 2014 . . . and his intention of winning for the first time since 1998, when he became the event’s first winner from the wider Caribbean.

RALLY CLUB CELEBRATES SEASON’S END

More than 120 awards presented at Annual Prizegiving All sides of the island’s motor sport fraternity were honoured at the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Annual Prizegiving on Friday evening (November 29) at Chapel Plantation, St Philip; more than 120 awards were presented, including return tickets to London, courtesy of Virgin Atlantic, title sponsor of the BRC Driver’s and Class Championships.

Former UK National Rally Champion Paul Bird is targetting a third consecutive victory at Sol Rally Barbados 2014 in the Frank Bird Poultry/Fuchs Titan Oils/Kick Energy/Rapid Solicitors Ford Focus WRC08. The most successful overseas visitor to the Caribbean's biggest annual motor sport international, he is also the first driver to have finished on the podium six years in a row, and would become only the second to claim a hat-trick.

MUDDOGS SEASON SAVES “TOUGHEST” TO LAST

O’Neal and Alleyne claim Nassco November Safari hat-trick Victory in the final round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship, last Sunday’s (November 10) Nassco November Safari, sealed the 2013 Champion Navigator and Driver titles for Chris O’Neal and Leslie Alleyne. They will receive the Sextant Challenge Trophy and the Peter Farmer Memorial Trophy respectively at the BRC’s Annual Prize-giving on Friday, November 29.

NASSCO NOVEMBER SAFARI TO SETTLE SERIES

Chefette MudDogs Championship goes down to the wire The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2013 Chefette MudDogs Safari and Chefette MudDogs Safari Novice Championships are set for an exciting climax when the fifth and final round, the Nassco November Safari, is staged on Sunday, November 10. All four major titles are still up for grabs, as the season goes down to the wire.

ANGLIAS “GO HOME” FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

When Scotland’s Allan Mackay returns to Sol Rally Barbados with his Ford Anglia WRC for his fifth visit in 2014, he will be back in what he describes as his rallying “home”. His flamboyant antics have won the hearts and minds of island fans, the fun delivered in double measure in 2013, when son Euan entered alongside him in the Anglia JWRC.

ROACH CROWNED YOUNGEST RALLY CLUB CHAMPION

Dropped-score rule settles hard-fought title race Conor Roach has won the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s Championship at the wheel of his Clubman class Peugeot 106; at 21 years of age, he becomes the youngest driver to win the title and joins his father, Derek, who was Champion Driver in 1991 and 1992, on the Club’s roll of honour.

SERRAO MASTERS CONDITIONS AT BLACK BESS

Motor sport wins the battle of the elements At the wheel of the Sugar Ultra Lounge Subaru Impreza WRC S9, Dean Serrao displayed great commitment in challenging driving conditions to win the final two rounds of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships on Sunday (October 13) at the double-header BRC Winter Gravel Sprint at Black Bess in St Peter.   It was a day when the weather proved once again that all sides of island motor sport – competitors, spectators and officials – are ready and willing to rise above a seemingly insurmountable challenge.
