KARCHER SUMMER STAGES OFFERS RARE NIGHT

After an eight-week break, competitors in the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships will return to action in the Karcher Summer Stages on Saturday, July 24. The event is set to be a big hit with fans, as half the scheduled 12 stages, alternating between the popular Pickerings and Turners Hall venues in the north of the island, will be run at night, increasingly rare in island motor sport.

There’s still all to play for in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2010 Mud Dogs Safari Championship, even for those crews who had a nightmare weekend on the recently-contested Shelbury Construction June Safari, the 54th running of the longest-established motor sport event in the Caribbean with a continuous history.

CLARKE MAKES HISTORY IN SHELBURY JUNE SAFARI

Navigator Wayne Clarke made history in the Shelbury Construction June Safari last weekend (June 26/27), when he became the first competitor to win the region’s oldest motor sport event with a continuous history for a fifth time. His third success with driver Chris Armstrong – they also won in 2000 and ’01 – came nearly 20 years after the first of his two victories as navigator to Don Hunte, in 1991 and ‘93.

The 54th running of the longest-established motor sport event in the Caribbean draws near, as competitors in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship prepare for the highlight of their season, the Shelbury Construction June Safari, which will run through the night of Saturday to Sunday, June 26/27.

SKEETE WINS THRILLING SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Roger ‘The Sheriff’ Skeete chalked up his 11th win in the Caribbean island’s premier event with victory on Sol Rally Barbados 2010 (May 29/30), which marked the 20th Anniversary of the inaugural running of the Barbados Rally Club’s International All-Stage Rally; the winning margin of just 1.16secs was the smallest since 2001 after two thrilling days of competition, during which the lead changed four times.
