WEATHER PROMISES TOUGH SAFARI

Nearly 30 crews are listed on the final entry for this Sunday’s (September 21) Regional Fire & Security September Safari, round three of the 2008 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship.
With all the front-running championship contenders entered, headed by joint leaders Anna-Lee and Leslie Alleyne and Neil Barnard and Barry Gale, and the current weather conditions guaranteed to create some difficult terrain, it promises to be a tough and hard-fought event.

LEADING CREWS IN CHAMPIONSHIP DEADLOCK

Preparations are in high gear for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) next event, the Regional Fire & Security September Safari slated for Sunday, September 21, with two of the island’s most experienced crews jointly leading the 2008 BRC Mud Dogs Safari Championship after the first two rounds.
Winners of the Toyo Tires March Safari were 2006 Champion Driver Leslie Alleyne and wife Anna-Lee in their Bridgestone Tires/AutoZone Inc Mitsubishi Pajero iO; they finished ahead of Barry Gale and Neil Barnard – Champion Driver and Navigator in 2005 – in their Mitsubishi L200.

BATTLE FOR VIRGIN ATLANTIC RALLYSPORT TITLES

While Sean Gill and Roger Skeete are the respective leaders of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Sprint and Rally Championships – both are being chased down by Paul Bourne – there are many more aspiring drivers hoping for success in their Groups in the Virgin Atlantic BRC RallySport Championship. At year-end, drivers will drop their worst score from each of the Rally and Sprint series to arrive at their points total in the RallySport Championship – as all involved enjoy the mid-season break, the picture looks like this:

BOURNE WINS EVENING SHOWDOWN

Paul Bourne continued his winning ways on Saturday (July 26) with victory in the Summer Nights Tarmac Sprint at Pickerings in St Lucy; it was his third win in four rounds of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Sprint Championship and brings him to within six points of Championship leader Roger Skeete.

NEW NAMES ADDED TO HISTORIC ROLL OF HONOUR

Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Navigational Champions in 2005, Neil Barnard and Barry Gale, added their names to the roll of honour of the region’s longest-running motor sport event last weekend (June 28/29) when they won the Shelbury Construction June Safari; in doing so, Barnard joins his father, David, who won the June Rally as both driver (1971 & ‘87) and navigator (for Michael Atwell in 1983).

THIRTY CREWS GO FOR ‘JUNE’ GLORY

Thirty crews are listed on the final entry for this weekend’s (June 28/29) Shelbury Construction June Safari, chasing glory in the region’s longest-running motor sport event . . . but victory in the second round of the 2008 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship will not be easy.
Once again, the event which helped establish the BRC in 1957 promises a true challenge of man and machine. The entry list includes seven former winners, two of whom – Leslie Alleyne and Derek Gill – have won as both driver and navigator.
