Barbados connections prepare to kick off new season

Hot on the heels of last week’s promise from popular British competitor Kevin Procter to “come back stronger” for Sol Rally Barbados 2018, two more Ford-mounted returnees have echoed his thoughts. Andrew Costin-Hurley and Nigel Worswick, returning for the 15th and eighth times respectively this year, have both signalled their intention of upping their game after technical issues in Sol RB17.

PROCTER “BACK STRONGER” FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Britain’s Kevin Procter will “come back stronger” when he competes in Sol Rally Barbados for the 13th time this year, having equalled his best-ever result of fourth in Sol RB17. The flamboyant Yorkshireman confirmed his participation shortly after finishing second in last Saturday’s (December 30) Christmas Stages Rally at Croft Circuit in the north of England, where freezing overnight temperatures threw up some tough challenges for the 80-plus starters.

February date for Annual Prizegiving and 60th Celebrations

Following the conclusion of the competition season last month, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has today (December 8) confirmed its list of Champions for 2017, along with the leading points-scorers across all disciplines. For the second year in a row, their achievements will be celebrated at a gathering in the New Year, which will this time also serve to acknowledge and recognise individual contributions made to the Club and to the sport since the BRC was founded six decades ago, in June 1957.

Jamaica’s Panton is Barbados Rally Club 2017 Champion Driver

With a top 10 finish on his debut in Sol Rally Barbados 2017 under his belt, British lawyer Graham Coffey has confirmed that he will return next year for what he describes as a “full-on, amazing, great rally”. His Impreza WRC S12B is one of three Subarus confirmed today (December 4) for the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international, alongside those of fellow Brits Rob Swann (S12B) and Simon Wallis (N10), who will each be competing for the 11th time.

BADD finale washed out; Johnson wins the title

While members of the Barbados Association of Dragsters and Drifters (BADD) were looking forward to a thrilling climax to the Club’s seventh season last Sunday (November 26), Mother Nature had other ideas. Launch Control 4, the club’s first Championship event to run under Bushy Park’s new all-arena lighting, was just getting into its stride, with 45 drivers recording qualifying times and an eager crowd building . . .

JAMAICA’S PANTON IS RALLY CLUB CHAMPION DRIVER

Torrential rain tests the skills of drivers and organisers

Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton has become the first overseas driver to win the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) coveted Champion Driver title, following victory on the weekend’s BRC Winter Rally (November 24/25). Only half the field was on the overall finishers’ list, after competitors and organisers alike battled with the challenges presented by Saturday’s torrential rainstorms in the north of the island where the event was centred.

BPCI appointed regional dealer for Radical Sportscars

Bushy Park Circuit Inc (BPCI) has been appointed an official dealer for Radical Sportscars; in an arrangement agreed earlier this month, a new entity, Radical Caribbean, will now represent the British race and road car manufacturer throughout all regional territories. The St Philip facility’s first race meeting of 2018 will be the third Radical Carnival over the weekend of January 27/28.

Hat-trick Sol Rally Barbados winners Jeffrey Panton and Michael Fennell Jnr (Ford Focus WRC06) are seeded at number one for this weekend’s final round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2017 Driver’s and Class Championships. The Jamaican crew tops a 40-car entry for the BRC Winter Rally, which incorporates the second weekend of the Barbados Historic Rally Carnival, which has helped boost to 14 the total of overseas participants.

COZIER AND CRONEY WIN NASSCO NOVEMBER SAFARI

Record fifth title for Alleyne and O’Neal

Jean-Marc Cozier and Andrew Croney crowned an impressive first full season together in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship with victory in Sunday’s (November 12) final round . . . although it nearly went awry during the Country View Mud and Hill Challenge, just before the finish, when their Honda Pioneer tipped over. It was quickly righted, however, and they continued to victory.
