Hinkson wins his third Esports Rally2 title
Mark-Anthony Hinkson has won the 2024 Esports Rally2 Championship, victory in the final round (December 13-15) confirming his third consecutive crown. Driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, the car of choice for most of this year’s participants, he won three of the four rounds run monthly since September.
The competition was managed by Caribbean Sim Motorsport (CSM) as a companion series to the Barbados Rally2 Championship, which is administered by the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) and sponsored this season by CIBC Caribbean and Ace H & B Hardware. The ‘real world’ title race concluded two weeks earlier, with Josh Read (Ford Fiesta R5) crowned Champion.
Hinkson, who represented Barbados in the Esports circuit racing disciplines at the World Motorsport Games in Spain in October, won the opening round, with Ashton Evelyn and Blake Thompson the podium finishers, also driving Skodas. When Hinkson doubled up with victory in round two, Evelyn was joint second with another Skoda driver, Ilann West.
West then claimed round three ahead of Hinkson and Evelyn, with Mark Hinds (Volkswagen Polo GTI R5) and Jason Kitsoo completing the podium behind Hinkson in the final round. Hinkson’s winning year-end total was 110 points, with Evelyn second (67.5pts) and West third (50pts).
Although the season was shorter and there were fewer competitors compared to previous years, CSM Chairman Robert Simmons was happy with the outcome: “Despite having to refocus his efforts and abilities for the World Motorsport Games in Spain, Mark’s victories in the first two rounds helped him solidify another title.
“We have had some challenges this year because of limitations and usage issues relating to the new WRC24 sim platform, but we are ready to press ahead. Esports is earmarked to start again in mid-March for what should be a more expansive and competitive season.”
