Edward Corbin finally celebrates Champion Driver title

More than 80 competitors and volunteers, representing both sides of the island’s motor sport community, were recognised for their achievements and commitment to the sport at the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Annual Prizegiving at Bentley Manor House, St Philip, on Saturday (February 1). After a number of near-misses, Edward Corbin finally claimed the Champion Driver title, emerging as one of the night’s big winners, also taking the Modified 1 and 2wd Championship trophies.

Edward Corbin finally wins Champion Driver title

More than 300 competitors participated in Barbados Rally Club (BRC) events during 2019, around 20 per cent more than last year. As the Club confirmed Edward Corbin as its Champion Driver today (December 9), along with the title-winners and year-end points standings across all its disciplines, Club Chairman Mark Hamilton was in upbeat mood about the growth in numbers and the close competition which resulted.

NORRIS, WATKINS WIN NASSCO SAFARI FOR TOYOTA

Alleyne and O’Neal add to MudDogs Championship titles

Ben Norris and Kirk Watkins claimed their second victory of the 2019 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship in last Sunday’s (October 20) final round, the Nassco October Safari, handing the island’s Toyota dealer a ‘home’ victory in their Land Cruiser. They finish the season second in the Driver and Navigator standings, just two points adrift of multiple Champions Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal, who were the route-setters last weekend.

Nassco sponsors season finale for 12th straight year

Crews contesting the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2019 Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship face their final points-scoring challenge of the season on Sunday (October 20), the Nassco October Safari, sponsored by the island’s Toyota dealer for the 12th consecutive year. With a route passing through six parishes and three Driver Challenges along the way, one through a St Philip swamp, it promises to be a fitting end to the campaign.

ALLEYNE, O’NEAL TAKE SUPER-S SEPTEMBER SAFARI

High praise for “enjoyable event” from winning crew

Navigational Rally veterans Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal added another victory to their already impressive record on Saturday (September 14) when they won the Super-S Lubricants September Safari, an event Alleyne described as “certainly one of the more enjoyable events in many years”. With the biggest MudDogs entry since 2017, Alleyne added that the third round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2019 Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship also created “a really good vibe going forward”.

NORRIS, WATKINS JOIN ‘THE JUNE’ ROLL OF HONOUR

Patels win Class B in Shelbury Construction June Safari

Two new names were added to the Roll of Honour of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) longest-running event at the weekend (June 29/30) when Ben Norris and Kirk Watkins won the Shelbury Construction June Safari. After a close overnight contest through all but one of the island’s parishes, Norris and Watkins (Toyota Land Cruiser) prevailed by 100 penalty points, bringing the number of winners to 73 since the event was first run in June 1957.
