SOL RALLY BARBADOS HIGHLIGHT OF LOCAL SEASON

  While anticipation among island fans about the quality entry for Sol Rally Barbados 2013 (June 1/2) is reaching fever pitch, local competitors are concentrating on their own preparations for the most important two weekends of the year. Scotiabank King of the Hill (May 26) and Sol RB13 – each day is an individual round – offer three chances to score points towards the 10-round Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships.

CARIBBEAN FRUIT EXCHANGED FOR RALLY CARS IN UK

  The Geest Line freighter Agulhas Stream sailed from Portsmouth on the English south coast yesterday (Tuesday, May 7) after two nights in port exchanging bananas and other produce from around the Caribbean for a shipment of 27 rally cars bound for the region’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol Rally Barbados.

BAJANNAV LEADS THE WAY TO SOL RALLY BARBADOS

  The Barbados Rally Club (BRC), organiser of Sol Rally Barbados (June 1/2), is making every effort to ensure that its blue riband event does not impact negatively on anyone in the island, be they resident, competitor, spectator or tourist . . . and particularly those who may not be motor sport fans.   For the third year, the Club has worked in association with AccuNav Ltd to provide gps support – using John Mann’s BajanNav, the gps map of Barbados – to create comprehensive files of information for everyone involved.

IRISH TRANSPORTER ‘INVADES’ SOL RALLY BARBADOS

  A record-breaking Celtic ‘invasion force’ left Ireland late afternoon Wednesday (May 1) to tackle the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International. Ten rally cars were loaded on to a transporter in the north of the ‘Emerald Isle’ to start the nearly 5,000-mile journey to compete in Sol Rally Barbados 2013 (June 1/2).   Having been assembled at a ‘secret location’ in County Antrim, the cars left Ireland by ferry from Belfast to Birkenhead, part of a 550-mile trip to Portsmouth on the English south coast, where all the remaining cars from Europe were already gathering.

IRISH STARLETS SET SAIL TO SOL RALLY BARBADOS

  Two stunning Toyota Starlet rally cars will next week start a 10-day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean on a Geest Line freighter from Portsmouth on the English south coast, heading for Sol Rally Barbados 2013 (June 1/2). Their Irish owners, however, will arrive in the small Caribbean island from different directions . . . Maurice Moffett from his homeland in the east, Danny O’Brien from New York in the west.

SKEETE WINS CHALLENGING VALVOLINE RALLY

  Roger Skeete and Louis Venezia claimed their first victory for the season in the Sol/Michelin/Simpson Motors/Da Costa Mannings Auto Centre Subaru Impreza WRC S12 in Sunday’s (April 28) Valvoline Rally. Despite some challenges, including the rain which fell in the afternoon, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) successfully ran all 10 planned stages at two venues in the north of the island.

ACTION FOR ALL AT VALVOLINE RALLY SUNDAY

  As the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2013 season kicks up a gear with the Valvoline Rally on Sunday (April 28), fans are promised a weekend of action. A field of nearly 40 cars will tackle 10 stages at two venues in the north of the island, while fans can mix with competitors at Scrutineering tomorrow (Saturday) at Automotive Art, Welches.

‘MICEY’ MANNING IS BACK FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

  Trevor ‘Micey’ Manning is back! A former winner of the island’s premier event, popular with fans for his flamboyant driving style, he will compete in Sol Rally Barbados for the first time since 2009 . . . he replaces the injured Logan Watson in his BMW M3, nick-named ‘Crackers’, a rear-wheel-drive car that ideally suits Manning’s persona.

SCOTIABANK TO SPONSOR KING OF THE HILL

  Scotiabank is the new sole title sponsor of King of the Hill, the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) final key event run in association with Sol Rally Barbados 2013, the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International. The deal was confirmed during a press briefing this morning (Friday, April 19) at the CGI Building in Warrens, St Michael.   Scheduled for Sunday, May 26, the weekend before Sol RB13, Scotiabank King of the Hill plays a vital role in the build-up to Sol RB13.

WESTERN AND HINDS MAKE A POINT . . . JUST ONE

Mark Western and Robin Hinds won Saturday’s (April 13) Chefette April Safari by the smallest possible margin - one penalty point. The result was the closest finish in a navigational event since the Toyota November Safari of 2005, when they were also involved . . . but as the losers, by two points, to Lindsay Farmer and Megan Blades.   Aboard the Kar Parts Store/GWS/Esso Barbarees Hill/Yardman Nissan Patrol, Western/Hinds were trailing at the end of route 1, 69 penalty points behind Audley and Jeremy Croney (CC Motorsports Suzuki Vitara).
