BADD & BKA action at Bushy Park Barbados Sunday
The Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) will return to the much-favoured day/night format at Bushy Park on Sunday (July 5), when it stages Summernight Warz, round two of the club’s 2015 Drag Warz series - slated to start at 3.30pm, it will run into the night to a finish time of around 8.00pm, with Practice in the afternoon, Qualifying just before sundown and the Eliminations under floodlights.
In the earlier part of the day, the Barbados Karting Association (BKA) will launch the Second Season of its 2015 Frutee/Chefette Championship; the First Season ended last month, with Reigning Champion Nick Gill the top scorer (in the 310 Yamaha class) in all five rounds – the only class-winner to achieve that – maintaining his form from last year. On Sunday, the BKA will race on the eastern track in a counter-clockwise direction, introducing some variety into the challenge for competitors.
When BADD launched its 2015 season in May, Matthew ‘DMZ’ Forde (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo III) set a new benchmark of 6.92secs for the 1/8th mile and many will be looking raise the bar further this weekend, particularly as the cars run quicker in the cool evening air. Drivers with the machinery to potentially achieve that include Roger Mayers (Ford Focus), who withdrew from the last event, Steve and Ricky Bruce (Evo III) and Graeme Finlayson (Westfield), who will be gunning for 2wd glory.
Ahead of the weekend’s action, BADD President Adrian Linton says: “Roger Mayers has got his previous diff controller problems with the Focus sorted and should be one of the ones to watch, while we have seven first-time entries for this event, which is great news. Fierce competition is expected across the groups as there are some potentially exciting match-ups.
“Daniel Murray and Anthony Morris had good showings last time out in the low 8-second region. The addition of Shane Bryan and Kyle Adamson should add to the mix, and some of the quicker 2wd cars should be nipping at their heels, if they can get the power down in the cool of the evening.
“I expect Barry Gilkes to be in the very low 7s, or even break into the 6s, while the 8.5 and 9 second classes should be a mix of Honda and Colt power. We haven’t seen Corey Stanford or Dwayne Clarke in action for some time, Sean Eversley is fresh from a rebuild, Graeme Finlayson’s Westfield is an unknown element and, with Michael Carter packing a megashot of NOS, it is shaping up to be an exciting evening of action.”
General Admission on Sunday will be Bds $20, with Race Control Premium $30; children 12 and under are free. A vehicle pass for the 4 x 4 Hammer Zone is Bds $25, with individual General Admission passes required for each occupant.
