Duckworth returns for 10th visit to Sol Rally Barbados

Former UK National Rally Champion, Britain’s Roger Duckworth, who finished second in Sol Rally Barbados 2019, will return for this year’s 33rd running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event on June 9-11. Fresh from a fifth-place finish in last Sunday’s (April 2) Alan Healy Memorial Rally at Cadwell Park, he announced his 10th visit to the island and his second to compete in his Technia Ford Fiesta R5.

Stage venues confirmed for Sol Rally Barbados 2023

The route for Sol Rally Barbados 2023 (June 9-11) will return the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international to its traditional pre-pandemic format, with Saturday’s special stages run at venues in the northern parishes and Sunday’s in the east of the island. A new venue for the previous weekend’s ‘shakedown event’ King of the Hill (June 4) will be announced in the coming weeks by the organising Barbados Rally Club (BRC), which has today (Saturday) also issued a reminder that the entry closing date is just five weeks away.

Prizegiving starts off busy opening weekend for R5

Island charity The Because of Jenna Trust received a donation of $5,000 from the 2022 R5 Rally Championship, presented by First Citizens, last Friday (March 17) at the first event of a busy weekend for competitors as the new season also got under way. As the Barbados Motoring Federation’s (BMF) first-ever national championship, the R5 Prizegiving played a prominent role in the BMF’s inaugural Night of Champions.

BMF honours 60-year involvement of Bizzy Williams

The Most Honourable Ralph ‘Bizzy’ Williams was honoured by the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) for his 60-year involvement in island motor sport last evening (Friday). He became the first recipient of the President’s Award at the BMF Night of Champions, the first-ever national awards evening for the sport in front of an invited audience at Mahogany Ridge, St Thomas.

New cars, new drivers for the FIA R5 class of 2023

New cars, new drivers and new car-driver combinations are set to change the face of the FIA R5 class in Barbados in 2023. With the season’s first closed road events scheduled for this weekend (March 18/19), island fans will witness the first of those changes as Jamaica’s Jeff Panton and Britain’s Rob Swann will be seen in action for the first time in Skoda Fabias, replacing the Ford Fiestas they campaigned last season.

New Zealand’s most successful rally driver Hayden Paddon has today (February 24) confirmed he will compete in Rally Barbados 2023 (June 9-11). The former Production World Rally Champion and winner of WRC Rally Argentina 2016 will be joined by his long-term co-driver and fellow Kiwi John Kennard for the 33rd running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event.

Plans at advanced stage for Rally Barbados 2023

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is at an advanced stage of planning for the 33rd running of its blue riband event. Four months out from Rally Barbados 2023, which is scheduled for the weekend of June 10/11, the venues for the event’s special stages have been decided, the route outline is close to completion and partnership negotiations are well under way.

BMF publishes revised 2023 motor sport calendar

The Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) has today (January 27) published a revised calendar for the 2023 motor sport season following consultations with its Member Clubs since the turn of the year. As before, the year’s programme will start over the first weekend of March, with 50 events scheduled to be run under permits issued by the BMF listed between then and early December.
