MALONEY CONFIRMED IN CARLIN’S EUROFORMULA OPEN TEAM

Carlin is pleased to announce that Bajan driver Zane Maloney will join the team for the upcoming 2020 EuroFormula Open Championship. Maloney returns to the Surrey-based squad after his stunning debut single-seater season, in which he claimed the 2019 F4 British Championship title with Carlin.

The 16-year-old made his mark on the 2019 British F4 series, taking ten wins, seven poles and five fastest laps across the 31-race season, as well as picking up the Ford Super Rookie Award. Maloney also equalled an impressive record set by Carlin alumni Jamie Caroline, taking four consecutive wins during his Championship campaign and securing the Rookie Cup title. In recognition of his achievements, Maloney was presented with the JTR Memorial Award, given to the driver who is deemed to have made the biggest impression on the championship.

Prior to British F4, Maloney demonstrated his skill with strong karting performances. Highlights of his 2018 season included finishing second overall in the SKUSA SuperNationals XXII – X30 Senior Class, third in the WSK Champions Cup, third in the German Kart Championship and fourth in the CIK FIA European championship.

The 2020 EuroFormula Open season will present Maloney with a new challenge to conquer in the form of nine race weekends across Europe, including visits to prestigious circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, Hockenheim, Pau and Monza. The calendar will also mark the revival of the Mediterranean Grand Prix at Enna-Pergusa in Sicily.

Speaking about his graduation to EuroFormula Open, Maloney said, “It feels great to continue the relationship with Carlin. Last year was amazing and I hope to build on this momentum to perform strongly in EuroFormula. I have been working really hard in the off-season with the team, my trainer Dominique and Kokoro Performance to take it to another level. I’m ready for the challenge!”

The EuroFormula Open 2020 pre-season testing gets underway in March at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with the season kicking off 25 - 26 April in Paul Ricard.
