PANTON, FENNELL TOP SEEDS FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton and Michael Fennell Jnr are top seeds for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event for the first time. Their Rubis/Sandals Barbados/KIG Ford Focus WRC06 will carry number one when they set off from tomorrow’s (Friday) Ceremonial Start at Sol Warrens, leading an international field of 88 cars, with a record 17 countries represented in Sol Rally Barbados.

SECOND FLOW KING OF THE HILL CROWN FOR PANTON

Jamaica’s Jeff Panton and Mike Fennell claimed their second Flow King of the Hill crown yesterday (Sunday), but enjoyed the limelight alone this time, following 2016’s tie with Simon Jean-Joseph and Jack Boyere. Second-placed Rob Swann claimed his best-ever KotH result, ahead of fellow British regulars, Roger Duckworth and Kevin Procter, with Roger Skeete finishing fifth and highest-placed local driver, as last year.

PANTON TOPS ENTRY FOR FLOW KING OF THE HILL

Sol Rally Barbados winner for the past two years, Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton (Ford Focus WRC06), tops the entry for Sunday’s (May 28) Flow King of the Hill, the final shakedown ahead of the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol RB17 (June 2-4). The provisional running order published today (May 26) lists 89 starters – the second-biggest field in the event’s 10-year history – with the pressure on from the get-go, as all four runs will count toward the result for the first time.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS ROUTE GETS ‘THUMBS UP’

Major changes to the route for Sol Rally Barbados 2017, including two night-time stages on Friday, June 2, within the longest event run since 2004, have been given the ‘thumbs up’ by two of the potential contenders for outright victory. Thirteen-time winner Roger Skeete described the opening stages as “fantastic”, a view shared by regular British visitor Rob Swann, who finished second to Skeete in 2014.

The Rally Show at Simpson Motors, Warrens, next Saturday (May 27) will provide island fans with unrivalled access to more than 90 local, regional and international cars and their crews. The event will run from 2.00pm for four hours, with a mix of competitions, cultural entertainment, Driver Meet & Greet sessions and sponsor promotions and, with the Chefette Kids Zone, there is something for all the family.

Busy time ahead for Mallalieu as FIA F1 and F2 Steward

Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) President Andrew Mallalieu is facing a busy few weeks of travelling as he attends three of the next six races on the Grand Prix calendar as an FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) Steward. And his continuing commitment to the work of the world governing body reflects well on the BMF, and on the island, one of the smallest nations affiliated to the FIA.

Bailey moves ahead in BPMSI Champion Driver title chase

Adrian Bailey is the new leader of the Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI) Champion Driver title chase following the Glassesco John ‘Tiny’ Harrison Memorial Race Meet at Bushy Park Barbados on May 6/7. Three wins in Group 1/Class 2, in which he has been Champion for the past two years, moved him ahead of class-mate and erstwhile leader Devan McCartney, who had a weekend to forget, scoring no points.

LOCAL CREWS CHASE POINTS AT SOL RALLY BARBADOS

For local competitors chasing points in the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Driver’s and Class Championships, Flow King of the Hill and Sol Rally Barbados are always the two most important weekends of the year. More so than usual in 2017, however, with the total number of rounds reduced from eight to seven, adding extra emphasis to the already pressure-cooker atmosphere of the upcoming events.

FINAL COUNTDOWN TO SOL RALLY BARBADOS IS ON!

The final countdown to Sol Rally Barbados 2017 is under way, with just 14 days to go before the first major event, the all-new Simpson Motors Rally Show on Saturday, May 27. Flow King of the Hill will follow on Sunday, with the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol RB17, running from Friday to Sunday, June 2-4. Nearly all 44 overseas cars on the provisional entry list are now in the island, ready to face the 48 local crews.
