GARETH’S SOL RALLY BARBADOS BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

Welsh teenager Gareth Parry got the surprise of his life yesterday morning (Thursday) when he learned that he will be competing in Sol Rally Barbados 2016 (June 3-5) and this Sunday’s Flow King of the Hill, which falls the day after his 18th birthday. He will co-drive for father Will in a Ford Escort MkII, run by Tsalta Motorsport, the Aberystwyth preparation business which has been a regular visitor to the island in recent years.

M-Sport’s Elfyn Evans, who currently leads WRC 2 in the FIA World Rally Championship, double European Rally Champion Simon Jean-Joseph, Sol Rally Barbados 2015 winner Jeffrey Panton and 13-time winner of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event Roger Skeete head a hugely-competitive entry list for Sunday’s (May 29) Flow King of the Hill, the final shakedown ahead of the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol Rally Barbados 2016 (June 3-5).

PROCTER CONFIRMS FIESTA FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Following a successful shakedown in the UK yesterday (Tuesday), Sol Rally Barbados regular Kevin Procter has confirmed that he will drive a Ford Fiesta in Sol RB16. The car will arrive in the island by air next week, bringing to three the number of cars flown in for this year’s event, a new record for the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

SOL TO SPONSOR ELFYN EVANS FIESTA FOR RB16

M-Sport World Rally Championship driver Elfyn Evans will carry the livery of the Sol Group when he competes in Sol Rally Barbados 2016 (June 3-5) and Flow King of the Hill (May 29), as the region’s largest independent oil company joins Intercontinental Shipping as sponsors. Evans and co-driver Craig Parry remain the WRC 2 points-leaders, despite rolling out of a strong third place in Rally Portugal this weekend.

MEEKE PICKS SOL RALLY BARBADOS PRIZE MARSHALS

Citroen World Rally Championship driver Kris Meeke says every rally fan should visit Sol Rally Barbados “at least once”. The Ulsterman made the remark when he joined the Circuit of Ireland’s Chief Marshal Raymond Linton last week to pick the names of two motor sport volunteers who will enjoy a trip to Sol RB16 next month (June 3-5) out of the prestigious Ulster Automobile Club Trophy.

Abbott, Catwell, Husbands join Suzuki Challenge Series winners

James Abbott, son of the co-founder of Radical Sportscars, and local racers Kyle Catwell and Kenrick ‘Snappa’ Husbands all entered winners row for the first time in the Suzuki Challenge Series on Sunday (May 8), when the action was fought out in front of a huge crowd at the inaugural Barbados Festival of Speed at Bushy Park.
