Thompson is third BKA points leader in three rounds

In what is proving to be a very competitive season, Blake Thompson is the third different leader of the 2023 Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship in as many rounds, following the July 2 event at Bushy Park Barbados, sponsored by Crane & Equipment. As racers from the 100cc Easykart Juniors class move to the head of the overall title chase, Thompson leads two-time Overall Champion Daniel Ullyett by five points, with Raizer Stoute third, another 14 points behind.

Ullyett won all three Junior races this month, although Thompson was a constant thorn in his side; the margin of victory was just two-tenths of a second in race two, Ullyett snatching a last-lap win from Thompson, who was also the early leader of race three. Ullyett’s performance is a timely confidence boost for the third Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy in Jamaica (July 21-23), where he will represent Barbados alongside Donche Blackman and Stoute, who completed the podium in each of the Junior races.

Colin Bradshaw has assumed the lead of the 125cc Easykart Lights class, despite retiring from the third race following an accident which resulted in the race meet being abandoned early, with only three of the customary four races run. Bradshaw moves ahead of Calem Maloney, who missed round three, with Aaron Blackett retaining his third place in the standings after two podium finishes. Logan Stollmeyer, who won race three, and Sebastian Thompson remain fourth and fifth, still separated by just one point as they both scored 59 points this month.

With cousins Zak and Jacob Mayers absent from the 60cc Cadet class, Aeden Bruce retook the points lead he had held after round one; with only Jayden Brathwaite as class opposition this time, he won races one and three, failing to finish the second, victory for Brathwaite contributing to him being top-scoring Cadet for the day.

Mark Thompson is the new leader of the 125cc Masters class, also currently sixth in the overall standings after two wins in round three; Ahmed Esuf won the first of the three races, then finished second and third in the other two to emerge highest Masters points-scorer of the day, slotting in at third in the standings behind the absent Cody Mark.
