ISLAND MOTOR SPORT CELEBRATES RECORD SEASON

Motor sport in Barbados is in good health, and making a growing contribution to the island’s sports-tourism product. For the first time since the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) was established in 2000, more than 400 local competitors took part in BMF-sanctioned events during the recently-concluded season . . . and that total is boosted to nearly 500 by a record number of overseas competitors, bringing worldwide publicity and valuable foreign exchange to the island.

CELTIC CROWD-PLEASERS CROSS THE CARIBBEAN

  Fresh from their recent exploits on Rally Jamaica, Celtic crowd favourites Glenn Campbell (Northern Ireland) and Allan McKay (Scotland) have confirmed that they will be returning for the 2012 running of the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international, Sol Rally Barbados (June 9/10).   They are among more than 30 entries already received on-line via the event’s official web site, www.rallybarbados.bb.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS BACKS ‘ROGER ALBERT CLARK’

  The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has made an early start on its International promotion for Sol Rally Barbados 2012 (June 9/10) by announcing that the winners of next month’s Roger Albert Clark Rally, Britain’s most demanding historic event, will receive an expenses-paid trip, valued at US $9,000 (around £5,600), to compete in the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international.   The prize includes free entry to Sol RB12 and the previous weekend's Shell V-Power King of the Hill 'shakedown' and free shipping for the rally car on the Geest Line.

RALLY CLUB CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL SEASON

More than 70 members of the island’s motor sport fraternity were honoured at the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Annual Prizegiving on Saturday evening (November 12) at Mahogany Ridge, St Thomas; awards included return tickets to the UK and ‘staycation’ weekends at Seafoam Haciendas, presented by Rachel Pilgrim of Virgin Atlantic, title sponsor of the BRC Driver’s and Class Championships.

ENTRIES SPEED UP FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2012

    Entries for Sol Rally Barbados 2012, the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international, are flowing into the event’s official web site, www.rallybarbados.bb, faster than last year . . . and the organising Barbados Rally Club (BRC) reports that half of the International entries received are newcomers.   Sol Rally Barbados Chairman Barry Gale said: “I realise it is early days, but I am very encouraged by the entries received so far.

GILL WINS BRC WINTER GRAVEL RALLY

  Sean Gill prevailed over Trevor Manning in Sunday’s (October 30) final round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships, the BRC Winter Gravel Rally at the Black Bess Plantation in St Peter; after a day-long battle during which they were never separated by more than three seconds, the event was won on the final stage, the winning margin 1.44secs.

VIRGIN ATLANTIC FINALE AT BLACK BESS

  For competitors in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships, the BRC Winter Gravel Rally at the Black Bess Plantation in St Peter on Sunday (October 30) is the final showdown. While the entry is unusually short on quantity, some quality competition is anticipated in those classes yet to be resolved.

WINTER GRAVEL RALLY SET FOR BLACK BESS

  Following its successful return after some years’ absence to the Black Bess Plantation in St Peter for the Autumn Gravel Sprint at the beginning of the month, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) will host the final round of this year’s Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships at the same venue on Sunday, October 30.   The BRC Winter Gravel Rally will comprise eight stages, four in one direction, followed by a one-hour lunch break, then four in the opposite direction; competitors are required to arrive for scrutineering before 8.00am.

ALLEYNE TOPS SEASON WITH NASSCO SAFARI WIN

  Leslie Alleyne and Chris Oneal fought back from fourth place at the lunch break to win Sunday’s (October 16) Nassco October Safari. It rounded off a remarkable season for former Champion Alleyne, who won three events in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) WTI MudDogs Safari Championship as Driver and one as Navigator, an achievement unlikely to be matched any time soon.

FINAL SHOWDOWN AT NASSCO SAFARI ON SUNDAY

  All the key players battling for supremacy in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) WTI MudDogs Safari Championship and Chefette MudDogs Safari Novice Championship are entered for Sunday’s (October 16) Nassco October Safari, so a thrilling climax to the season is in prospect.   With three new names on the entry list, to add to those who have already competed this year, the BRC’s off-road arm is also celebrating another successful season. MudDogs Chairman Warren Gollop says: “It hardly seems possibly that we have reached the end of another season, but here we are!
