Scotland will be represented by seven crews in Sol Rally Barbados 2017, following today’s (April 18) announcement of three further entries, which bring the number of overseas cars confirmed for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event to 35 and the entry in the four-wheel-drive classes to 22.

Despite a shakedown at last Sunday’s (April 9) Alan Healy Memorial Rally at Cadwell Park not going entirely to plan, former UK National Rally Champion Roger Duckworth has confirmed he will compete in Sol Rally Barbados for the seventh consecutive year in his ex-Juha Kankkunen Intrinsys Subaru Impreza WRC S6. Confirmation of Duckworth and newcomer Brandon Smith brings to 32 the total of overseas crews now committed to the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

French marque Citroen, winner of eight World Rally Championship titles since 2003, has rarely been represented in the 27-year history of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event. But that is about to change, with today’s (April 7) confirmation of a quartet of Citroens for Sol Rally Barbados 2017, bringing to 30 the total of overseas crews now committed to the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

60th Anniversary celebrations to reflect BRC’s founding values

Island fan favourite, British BMW driver Martin ‘Mad-dale’ Stockdale, will have flown more than 140,000 miles in return trips across the Atlantic when he lands at London Gatwick in early June after competing in Sol Rally Barbados 2017 . . . and that’s more than 12 days in the air. This is his 17th straight appearance in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event, which he, wife Glenis and family have not missed since 2001.

60th Anniversary celebrations to reflect founding values

 

Three months ahead of events to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC), members have been urged not only to celebrate the Club’s past achievements but also to consider the future, in particular to seek out the new generation needed to carry the BRC into the next few decades. This was the message from Chairman Mark Hamilton in his annual report at last night’s (Monday) AGM at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Clubhouse at Searles, Christ Church.

McCartney and Walcott claim Bushy Park hat-tricks

Devan McCartney and Andre Walcott each claimed a hat-trick of class wins as Bushy Park Motor Sport Inc (BPMSI) opened its 2017 Championship at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday (March 26), while Kyle King overcame a 10-second jump-start penalty to win the Hilti Handicap on his circuit racing debut. The St Philip facility staged the island’s first-ever joint event for horsepower and pedal-power, as BPMSI combined with the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) and the Barbados Cycling Union (BCU).

PANTON, PROCTER SIGN FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Final time-line confirmed in Supplementary Regulations

Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton, winner of Sol Rally Barbados for the past two years, and Britain’s Kevin Procter are confirmed today (March 24) for this year’s 28th running of the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International. Both look set to be better prepared than last year for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event, where they join island rallying legend and 13-time winner Roger Skeete and UK regular Rob Swann as potential winners.

BPMSI Champions start title defence at Bushy Park

Five of Bushy Park Motor Sport Inc’s (BPMSI) Reigning Champions will start the defence of their 2016 titles at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday (March 26), as BPMSI joins forces with the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) and the Barbados Cycling Union (BCU) to stage the island’s first-ever combined event for horsepower and pedal-power. BADD officials are looking forward to a day of potentially record-breaking competition, while the BCU is hoping to use Sunday as a stepping-stone for the future.

BCU joins BPMSI & BADD at Bushy Park for island first

The Barbados Cycling Union (BCU) will join forces with Bushy Park Motor Sport Inc (BPMSI) and the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday (March 26) to stage the island’s first-ever combined event for horsepower and pedal-power. Circuit Acclimatisation will be followed by two 20-minute Handicap Races, interspersed with the existing track racing and drag strip activity.

Wedding bells and a new shell for Welsh crew

Group A is set to attract a record entry for Sol Rally Barbados 2017, as four more International crews confirmed today (March 17) bring the current total to eight, already the highest for more than a decade. With at least two more in the pipe-line, the starting list for the four-wheel-drive classification won last year by M-Sport works driver Elfyn Evans could reach double figures for the first time in the history of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event.
