BMF publishes Environmental Code of Practice

The Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) has this week published an Environmental Code of Practice as it positions itself at the forefront of environmental awareness and protection in island motor sport. The 23-page document was ratified at the BMF’s Annual General Assembly on Wednesday evening (September 25), which was attended by representatives of all the Federation’s nine Member Clubs.
  During the meeting, Senator Andrew Mallalieu was re-elected BMF President for a further three-year term. David Williams was also returned to serve again, although his title has changed to Vice-President - Sport, as two new positions were agreed among a number of changes to the Federation Statutes and Regulations.
  Mallalieu said: “As the National Sporting Authority (ASN), we have a responsibility to ensure that event organisers, competitors and officials are informed of, understand and comply with government requirements for the protection of our environment.
  “While we want competitors in all categories to enjoy participating in their chosen discipline, we are urging them to care for the environment as they do so and believe that motorsport can and should be an outstanding example to all motorists, leading the conversation for the protection of the environment.”
  Among direct areas of concern addressed by the Code are sound measurement and noise control, fuel composition, storage and disposal of fuel containers, protection of soil and water sources, fire prevention and control and waste management; in addition to those within the sport, it deals with the responsibilities of the public and spectators.
  The BMF is affiliated to both the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and, since 2022, also the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Among changes to the Statutes agreed on Wednesday were the creation of two new positions, Vice-President - Mobility and Vice-President - Motorcycles, which will be voted on every two years. Adrian Linton, President of the Barbados Automobile Association (BAA) was elected to the former position, while candidates are being considered for the latter.
  In addition, Leslie Evanson was confirmed as the BMF’s Women in Motorsport representative. Evanson has been involved in the sport for more than two decades; as well as being an active co-driver – she won the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Modified 1 Championship title last year with Jamaican Horatio Brown – she is a regular face in event timing and results offices at Bushy Park and the Vaucluse Raceway.
  The revised Statutes, Regulations and the Environmental Code of Practice will be available shortly on the BMF web site, bmf-fia.com.
  The sporting clubs affiliated to the BMF are the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD), Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL), Barbados Karting Association (BKA), Barbados Rally Club (BRC), Bushy Park Motorsports Inc (BPMSI), Caribbean Sim Motorsport (CSM), Motoring Club Barbados Inc (MCBI) and the Vaucluse Raceway Motorsport Club (VRMSC). Away from motor sport, the BMF affiliate which answers the FIA Mobility remit is the Barbados Automobile Association (BAA).
