Karters eager for the restart after summer break

After seven weeks away from the track, drivers in the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship are eager to return to Bushy Park Barbados this Sunday (August 11) to start the second half of their season. With four more Race Meets in the next 12 weeks, the pressure is on to make every result count.

With 424 points scored in the first five rounds, Zak Mayers leads the overall standings by 33 points from his cousin Jacob, these two also at the sharp end of the Easykart 100cc Juniors category. Zak has 10 race wins to his credit, five in the first two rounds, while Jacob scored five of his six victories in rounds three to five, steadily closing in on his cousin. Twice a race-winner, Aeden Bruce is third in what has been the most competitive class this season, with races often won by mere inches.

The Mayers boys are both under threat in the overall standings, however, from third-placed Calem Maloney, who is now just six points behind Jacob on 385. With 14 wins from the 16 races he has contested – school studies kept him away from round two in March – he is dominant in the Easykart 125cc Lights class. While Aaron Blackett and Sebastián Thompson are second and third with 309 and 296 points respectively – Blackett is also fifth overall - Colin Bradshaw, Cody Mark and Mark Thompson have been the other winners in what is the best-subscribed class.

With 306 points placing him sixth in the overall standings, Shamir Eversley leads the EasyKart 60cc Cadets class by a comfortable margin from Jordyn Hinkson (196pts), with Oliver Judd third on 144pts scored before he graduated to the 100cc class.

Sunday’s sixth round is scheduled for an 8.00am start.
