ENTRIES FLOW IN FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2022

Local crews eager for return to closed road rallying

Nearly 40 entries have been posted for Sol Rally Barbados 2022 since the on-line entry form went live last Monday (January 3). While two-thirds of those are from overseas, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is buoyed by the positive response from island competitors looking forward to some measure of normality returning to motor sport, led by Roger Hill, whose record of 22 top 10 finishes on the club’s premier event is unrivalled.

Barbados Motoring Federation releases 2022 calendar

Nearly 50 events planned by the Barbados Motoring Federation’s (BMF) sporting Member Clubs are listed on the provisional 2022 calendar published today (January 8). In the last two seasons the number of events run under BMF permits has been reduced by 50 per cent or more with cancellations caused by the coronavirus pandemic, so the motor sport community is hoping that the effects of Covid-19 will start to abate.

BMF President elected to World Motor Sport Council

Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) President Andrew Mallalieu was elected to the World Motor Sport Council of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) at its Annual General Assembly in Paris, France last Friday (December 17). The elections came immediately after Mohammed Ben Sulayem of the United Arab Emirates won a four-year term as FIA President, replacing Jean Todt, who has stepped down after three consecutive four-year terms, the maximum allowable under FIA limitation rules.

BMF hails Kyffin Simpson for FRA Championship win

The Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) has hailed 17-year-old Barbadian driver Kyffin Simpson’s success in winning the 2021 Formula Regional Americas Championship powered by Honda, as “beyond our expectations”. In a dominant campaign which concluded on Saturday (November 6) at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, home of the United States Grand Prix, Simpson won seven of the 18 races and finished on the podium in a further six, helping renowned IndyCar engineer Tim Neff’s new TJ Speed Motorsports outfit to victory in the Teams’ Championship in its first season.
