SKEETE WINS CHALLENGING VALVOLINE RALLY

  Roger Skeete and Louis Venezia claimed their first victory for the season in the Sol/Michelin/Simpson Motors/Da Costa Mannings Auto Centre Subaru Impreza WRC S12 in Sunday’s (April 28) Valvoline Rally. Despite some challenges, including the rain which fell in the afternoon, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) successfully ran all 10 planned stages at two venues in the north of the island.

ACTION FOR ALL AT VALVOLINE RALLY SUNDAY

  As the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2013 season kicks up a gear with the Valvoline Rally on Sunday (April 28), fans are promised a weekend of action. A field of nearly 40 cars will tackle 10 stages at two venues in the north of the island, while fans can mix with competitors at Scrutineering tomorrow (Saturday) at Automotive Art, Welches.

‘MICEY’ MANNING IS BACK FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

  Trevor ‘Micey’ Manning is back! A former winner of the island’s premier event, popular with fans for his flamboyant driving style, he will compete in Sol Rally Barbados for the first time since 2009 . . . he replaces the injured Logan Watson in his BMW M3, nick-named ‘Crackers’, a rear-wheel-drive car that ideally suits Manning’s persona.

SCOTIABANK TO SPONSOR KING OF THE HILL

  Scotiabank is the new sole title sponsor of King of the Hill, the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) final key event run in association with Sol Rally Barbados 2013, the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International. The deal was confirmed during a press briefing this morning (Friday, April 19) at the CGI Building in Warrens, St Michael.   Scheduled for Sunday, May 26, the weekend before Sol RB13, Scotiabank King of the Hill plays a vital role in the build-up to Sol RB13.

WESTERN AND HINDS MAKE A POINT . . . JUST ONE

Mark Western and Robin Hinds won Saturday’s (April 13) Chefette April Safari by the smallest possible margin - one penalty point. The result was the closest finish in a navigational event since the Toyota November Safari of 2005, when they were also involved . . . but as the losers, by two points, to Lindsay Farmer and Megan Blades.   Aboard the Kar Parts Store/GWS/Esso Barbarees Hill/Yardman Nissan Patrol, Western/Hinds were trailing at the end of route 1, 69 penalty points behind Audley and Jeremy Croney (CC Motorsports Suzuki Vitara).

FIVE-WAY TIE IN VIRGIN ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP

  As competitors in the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s and Class Championships start preparations for the upcoming Valvoline Rally (Sunday, April 28) – round three of 10 in this year’s Championship – there is a five-way tie in the Driver’s title chase, while Paul Bourne and Josh Read lead the four-wheel-drive and two-wheel-drive standings respectively.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS TRIP FOR LONDON SPECTATORS

  One lucky spectator at the inaugural London Rally for Heroes next weekend (April 19/20) will win a VIP trip for two to Sol Rally Barbados 2013, the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International. With Rally HQ at Brooklands, the birthplace of British motor sport and aviation, the first major rally to be staged so close to London for nearly 20 years is raising funds in support of Help for Heroes.

CHEFETTE APRIL SAFARI RUNS OFF SATURDAY

  Eighteen crews were confirmed for Saturday’s (April 13) Chefette April Safari at a well-attended Briefing Meeting at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association Club House at Searles, Christ Church last evening. Seven combinations are making their first appearance of the season, bringing to more than 40 the number of Drivers and Navigators so far to line up for the 2013 Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship.   MudDogs Chairman Darnley Rayside said: “I must say that I was again impressed with amount of people that turned out last night.

DUCKWORTH RETURNS TO SOL RALLY BARBADOS

  Former UK National Rally Champion Roger Duckworth will make his third trip to Sol Rally Barbados this year, bringing to a record-breaking 11 the number of entries in the two classes catering for World Rally Cars. In doing so, he will break a personal record, too – he has rarely rallied outside the UK, twice in Ireland and twice in Portugal, so competing in a country for a third time is a new experience!   Having thoroughly enjoyed his two previous visits – both were prize drives for winning Rallye Sunseeker National – he was quick to enter again, once he knew his car would be ready . . .

VALVOLINE RALLY CONFIRMED FOR APRIL

  Valvoline has joined forces with Automotive Art and the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) for the second year as title sponsor of Club’s first special stage rally of the season, which runs off on Sunday, April 28. The only tarmac rally before the island’s premier event, it provides a valuable opportunity chance to gauge one another’s performance.
