Rally Club to mark premier event’s 30-year milestone

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC), which celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2017, will mark another important milestone in the Club’s distinguished history next year, with the 30th running of its premier event, known since 2008 as Sol Rally Barbados. The event has evolved from small beginnings as the International All-Stage Rally of 1990 into the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International and a key National Event on the island’s sports-tourism calendar.

Williams Industries to sponsor Bushy Park CMRC International

Williams Industries is confirmed as title sponsor of round three of the 2018 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), to be staged at Bushy Park Barbados next month (September 1/2). The local conglomerate thereby maintains its unbroken record of title sponsorship for the island’s qualifying round, which dates back to 2008 when Barbados became part of the current CMRC, following annual support for earlier regional race meets at the St Philip facility since 2004.

McCartney still ahead in BPMSI title chase

Former Superstock bike racer Devan McCartney has increased his lead in Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc’s (BPMSI) 2018 Champion Driver title chase from 30 to 39 points, despite failing to add his tally of class wins at the BPMSI Night Races last Saturday (July 7). Run from day into the night under the all-arena lighting, the first race meet on the new 1.28-kilometre/0.79-mile National Circuit produced some hard-fought action, particularly in Group 1 Class 2, the Club’s best-supported class.

ALLEYNE AND O’NEAL EXTEND RECORD-BREAKING RUN

Johnson and Lynch win Class B in Sol June Safari

Following their victory in the weekend’s (June 23/24) Sol June Safari, Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal will need the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) to re-write its record books one more time. Despite a nerve-wracking last few hours before the Saturday morning start – O’Neal’s return flight from Canada was delayed – the experienced pair prevailed in an event which Alleyne described as a “well thought-out rally, which tested all aspects of the competitors”.

FOUR-WAY BATTLE FOR RALLY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Reigning Champion Panton tied with Corbin, Cozier and Mayers

For the second straight year, a dominant run of four WRC class wins has given Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton a maximum score in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Champion Driver title chase. This year, however, he owns only a quarter-share of the Championship lead, as Edward Corbin, Greg Cozier and Barry Mayers are also unbeaten in Modified 1, Historic 2 and SuperModified 2 respectively, so jointly lead the standings.

Five Driver Challenges add to tough test of stamina

With no fewer than five Driver Challenges, three of them at night, and a route that touches all 11 of the island’s parishes, this weekend’s (June 23/24) Sol June Safari will be a tough test of mental and physical stamina for crews contesting the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2018 Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship. And, with only five former winners on the entry list, there is a strong chance that new names could be added to the 71 currently listed on the event’s roll of honour.
