BARBADOS RALLY CLUB OPTIMISTIC FOR NEW SEASON

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is approaching the 2016 season in a mood of optimism, with revised Vehicle Regulations about to come into force and members anticipating continued high levels of competition. This was the message from Chairman Mark Hamilton in his annual report at last night’s (Thursday) AGM at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Clubhouse at Searles, Christ Church.

Inaugural Suzuki Challenge Series concludes on Saturday

 

The inaugural Suzuki Challenge Series will be settled this Saturday (February 27) at Bushy Park Barbados, as drivers from around the region do battle for the final time in the first season of this innovative one-make championship. Races will start from the Southern Grid, right in front of pit lane, which promoted close-fought action during last month’s Radical International.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS “A BIG PART OF OUR LIVES”

British driver Andrew Costin-Hurley’s entry for Sol Rally Barbados 2016 marks his 13th visit to the island for an event he describes as “a big and colourful part of our lives”. This year, he is reunited with co-driver Rob Brook, with whom he achieved a personal best in Sol RB14 – 21st overall, plus his third class win – and also returns after a comprehensive rebuild of his unique Ford Puma Evo.

Lewis Hamilton to top the bill at Barbados Festival of Speed

Three-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton will make a unique high-speed contribution to the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the island’s Independence at the wheel of his Formula 1 car during the inaugural Barbados Festival of Speed at Bushy Park on the weekend of May 7/8.

EXTRA CAR FOR UK TEAM’S SOL RALLY BARBADOS TRIP UK

Former British Ladies Rally Champion Shelly Taunt has unfinished business in the Caribbean, after she and co-driver Julie Murphy retired on day one of Sol Rally Barbados last year. The team’s determination to repeat what Taunt describes as “an amazing experience” looked set to be thwarted by a clash of dates, but a perfect solution has been found . . . the acquisition of a second car, specifically to ship to Sol RB16.

Busy season of motor sport ahead for Barbados

Nearly 50 events to be organised by the seven sporting Member Clubs of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) are listed on the BMF’s Approved 2016 Calendar, published today (February 11). The first two have already been run, with the remaining dates stretching until the last weekend of November.

  A broad cross-section of motor sport disciplines is covered, from grass-roots autocross through circuit racing for cars, karts and motorcycles and drag racing to off-road 4x4 navigational events, rallycross, rallysprints, special stage rallies and speed events.

Radical visitors give ‘thumbs up’ to Bushy Park Barbados

Bushy Park Barbados earned high praise from racing drivers from Britain, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States who travelled to the island last month for the inaugural Radical International, which hosted the first two rounds of the Suzuki Challenge Series Winter Cup. They not only gave the ‘thumbs up’ to the facility, but also to the island and the warm and enthusiastic welcome they received.

FRIENDS REUNITED ON SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2016

Four British friends who last rallied together on one of the world’s toughest events almost a decade ago will be reunited in competition for the first time since then on Sol Rally Barbados 2016. They are among more than 50 overseas entries so far posted on the official web site – www.rallybarbados.net - for the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, which will run from Friday to Sunday, June 3 to 5.

REPEAT VISITORS PREPARE FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

With three months to go before their cars are due to be shipped from Portsmouth, rally teams across the United Kingdom are making preparations for their annual trip to the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol Rally Barbados 2016. Among more than 30 repeat visitors already entered, drivers Kenny Hall, Joe McQuillan and Simon Wallis and their co-drivers will have notched up more than 50 visits between them when they arrive this year.

Esuf and Ming shake up Suzuki Challenge Series

Records tumbled at Bushy Park Barbados over the weekend (January 23/24) as newcomers Suleman Esuf and Guyana’s Calvin Ming shook up the established order in the Suzuki Challenge Series SR3 Cup. Drivers from the UK, United States, Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago joined the Barbadian regulars for the inaugural Radical International, as the three-round Winter Cup got under way with an action-packed two-day double-header.
