The battle for Two-Wheel-Drive honours in Sol Rally Barbados 2018 looks set to be a thriller for local fans, as at least six potential winners battle second-for-second with one another, while snapping away at the heels of the 4wd cars. The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event, Sol RB18 will run from Friday to Sunday, June 1-3, with The Rally Show and Flow King of the Hill (KotH) the previous weekend, May 26/27.

Radical Caribbean SR3 Cup steps up to regional status

The Radical Caribbean SR3 Cup is to become a regional championship, Bushy Park Circuit Inc (BPCI) confirmed today (Tuesday). In its first year, a four-round series will be contested at head-lining race meetings in Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago, with plans for further expansion in future seasons.

Clubman classes revised to sustain entry-level participation

The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) revised Vehicle Regulations for the next three-year cycle, from 2019 to 2021, were approved by the membership at an Extraordinary General Meeting last evening (Thursday). The EGM, held at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Clubhouse, Searles, Christ Church, followed an earlier open meeting of the membership in April, at which the Club’s Committee of Management (CoM) presented proposals from its new Regulations Discussion Group.

Sol Rally Barbados has attracted more than 40 overseas entries for the fourth straight year, maintaining its global reputation as a ‘must-do’ event for crews across the world. The provisional entry list of 93 crews was confirmed at today’s (Wednesday) Media Briefing at Mahogany Ridge, St James, along with a number of changes to the event’s format, which organisers believe will create a stern test of skill and endurance for the 29th running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event on June 1 to 3.

• the Ceremonial Start on Friday, June 2 (6.30pm) moves to the Vaucluse Raceway and, this year, it will lead straight in to the first timed stage . . . immediately! Cars will run in reverse order of seeding, side-by-side in pairs; each crew will be interviewed on the Ceremonial Start ramp to the south of the startline, before moving forward to tackle two laps of the RallySprint track, a distance of 5.80kms. It is a challenging start to the event, as was demonstrated during last year’s BRC Winter Rally, and requires real concentration

Mallalieu heads for CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy

The Caribbean will be represented in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy for the first time when reigning Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Junior Champion Adam Mallalieu makes his debut on the international stage at Salbris in France this weekend (May 3-6). The 14-year-old Harrison College student joins 50 other rising stars from 40 countries hoping to follow in the wheel-tracks of 2011 Academy Champion Charles Leclerc, who scored his first points in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship last Sunday (April 29) when he finished sixth for Sauber in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

With the United Kingdom facing another cold snap - sub-zero temperatures are forecast again in the coming days - rally crews across the country are turning their thoughts to warmer climes, and to Sol Rally Barbados 2018. As next week’s deadline approaches for cars to be delivered to the south coast port of Dover, new home of Geest Line’s shipping operations, the overseas entry has reached 35, with further announcements to come.
