Skeete beats Swann to Shakedown Stages title

First-timers Darryl Morris and Steve Gully will spearhead a full-on Ford Escort attack on Sol Rally Barbados 2019, the 30th running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event. Class-winners on the annual Jersey Rally for the last four years, second overall in 2017 and again last year, they will be joined by Pete Rayner, who first introduced Morris to the Caribbean event and returns for the first time since 2016.

Successful debut for RallySafe event management system

A thrilling high-speed battle between rising star Dane Skeete and Britain’s Rob Swann in a pair of Subaru Impreza WRC S12Bs launched the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Driver’s & Class Championships in fine style yesterday (Sunday). Hundreds of spectators lined three special stage venues in the north of the island for the BRC Shakedown Stages to see Skeete soak up the pressure from the experienced Swann, fighting back through the field after losing time on the opening stage, and win by less than two seconds.

Debut of RallySafe event management system

Britain’s Rob Swann and Darren Garrod are seeded at number one for the opening round of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Driver’s & Class Championships on Sunday (April 7). Forty crews were confirmed on the running order for the BRC Shakedown Stages at last night’s Briefing Meeting at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Clubhouse, Searles, Christ Church, during which a visiting team from RallySafe gave a presentation to a packed house on the timing and event management system.

Three weeks until on-line entries close

The Turks & Caicos Motoring Club will field its biggest team yet in Sol Rally Barbados 2019, the 30th running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event. The pioneer member of the group, Paul Horton, first competed in 2010, followed by Stan Hartling two years later, then Pierre Beswick in 2017; after Hartling’s younger son Ben took part last year, his brother Sam is entered for Sol RB19, bringing the total to five cars, competing across four different classes.

Motorsport UK Academy Co-driver returns to Barbados

Britain’s Kevin Procter, a fan favourite for his flamboyant driving style, is aiming for the podium in Sol Rally Barbados 2019, the 30th running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event. His 10 top 10 finishes in 13 visits include three fourth places – he was just 1.2 seconds off the podium in Sol RB17 – but third has always eluded him. Fellow-Brit Graham Coffey, who Procter encouraged to compete in Barbados two years ago, will be among those out to stop him, now driving an identical turbocharged Ford Fiesta.

Race against time for Tsalta Motorsport

Roger Skeete, the most successful driver in the history of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event, is switching roles with son Dane for Sol Rally Barbados 2019, the event’s 30th running. With 13 victories under his belt, ‘The Sheriff’ is stepping down to facilitate “an all-Barbadian crew capable of taking the attack to them all”, swapping his Subaru Impreza WRC S12B, which has won the event three times in his hands, with the Peugeot 306 Maxi in which Dane finished eighth overall last year.

Challenging new venue for Shakedown Stages

Trinidad & Tobago’s David Coelho is the first regional entry for Sol Rally Barbados 2019, the 30th running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event, while confirmation of American George Sherman’s participation brings to 10 the number of overseas entries so far shown in the on-line entry list. Campaigning his Ford Fiesta R5, Coelho joins Britain’s Tom Preston (Skoda Fabia R5) in the new FIA R5 category, while Sherman has upgraded Coelho’s former Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX to run in Modified 4.

As individuals and organisations around the world mark International Women’s Day (Friday, March 8), island rallying’s most loyal overseas competitor, England’s Martin Stockdale, has confirmed that his co-driver for Sol Rally Barbados 2019 will be Emma Morrison. ‘Mad-dale’, as islands fans have dubbed him, returns for his 19th visit to compete, while multiple co-driving champion Emma is back for the second time, one of 16 women among the entries so far received on-line.

RALLY CLUB REWARDS COMPETITORS AND VOLUNTEERS

Record number of trophies for overseas competitors

More than 80 members of the motor sport community, both competitors and volunteer officials, were recognised for their achievements and commitment to the sport at the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Annual Prizegiving at Mahogany Ridge, St Thomas, on Saturday evening (February 23). As Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton won back-to-back Champion Driver titles, a record number of trophies were won by overseas participants, including Rob Swann, who flew in from the UK for all seven rounds of the Driver’s & Class Championships.
