Barbados Festival of Speed star turns head into town

The Twister Aerobatics Team, one of the star turns packing the eight-hour schedule for Saturday’s (October 14) Barbados Festival of Speed, will give the island a preview of the action tomorrow (Wednesday), with two spectacular air displays in their 180mph Silence SA1100 aircraft. In their first-ever display in the Americas, they will fly from Bushy Park Barbados to Cave Hill, then back along the south coast at noon and 6.00pm.

PANTON ON TOP FORM AGAIN AT BRC WINTER SPRINT

Jamaica’s Jeff Panton slid to victory – twice – in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) double-header Winter Sprint on Sunday (October 8) to maintain his 100 per cent record in the 2017 BRC Driver’s and Class Championships, with one round to go. As drivers dealt with slippery stage conditions, a monumental battle for two-wheel-drive honours was the highlight of a slick event, which drew praise from competitors and officials alike.

PANTON HEADS ENTRY FOR BRC WINTER SPRINT

Jamaica’s Jeff Panton, who currently leads the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Champion Driver title chase, tops the 31-car entry for Sunday’s (October 8) Winter Sprint in the northern parish of St Lucy. With no dropped-score rule in the 2017 BRC Driver’s and Class Championships, every point counts, as competitors prepare for a double-header, which could prove a turning point for some class battles.

Button to race against plane at Barbados Festival of Speed

Former World F1 Champion Jenson Button will have his work cut out at next weekend’s (Saturday, October 14) Barbados Festival of Speed. Among a number of challenges accepted by Button and current Sahara Force India driver Esteban Ocon is for the 2009 Champion to race against one of the Silence SA1100 aircraft which will be starring in the Twister Aerobatic Team’s daytime aerial ballet and twilight pyrotechnics displays.

FIA President Todt praises island motor sport fraternity

President of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Jean Todt heaped praise on the island’s motor sport fraternity shortly before he left Barbados on Tuesday (August 8) after a one-day visit in his capacity as the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety. Speaking to the media at Bushy Park, he said: “In Barbados, a small country of less than 300,000 population, there are a lot of skilled people with energy and passion, which makes me very happy.”

PANTON LEADS RALLY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

After a dominant run of four straight WRC class wins, Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton is the first competitor from the four-wheel-drive classes to lead the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Champion Driver title chase at the half-way stage since 2011. With four of seven rounds run, he is three points ahead of SuperModified 1 class leader Neil Corbin, while four more drivers are within 10 points of his total of 75.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2018 DATES ANNOUNCED

An unprecedented level of interest from both competitors and spectators has encouraged the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) to move earlier than ever before to announce the dates for the next edition of its premier event: Sol Rally Barbados 2018 will run from June 1 to 3, with Flow King of the Hill the previous Sunday (May 27), while on-line entries will open on the official web site - www.rallybarbados.net – on October 1, 2017.

PANTON & FENNELL’S SOL RALLY BARBADOS HAT-TRICK

Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton and Michael Fennell Jnr survived a late-afternoon scare on the final day of Sol Rally Barbados 2017 (June 2-4) to claim a hat-trick of victories in their Ford Focus WRC06, leading home only the fourth podium lock-out by overseas competitors in the 28-year history of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event. Despite a heavy hit on the final pass through Padmore, costing 15 seconds compared with their previous run, they had built up a sufficient margin to win by 1m 15.69s.
