ISLAND MOTOR SPORT EXPANDS TRAINING COURSES

As a watershed season of island motor sport gathers momentum, the National Sporting Authority, the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF), has launched a ground-breaking operational and safety training programme. With local volunteers now accredited to deliver bespoke courses, the BMF will be training not only its marshals, but also its senior officials and – for the first time in a decade – its competition licence-holders.

DUCKWORTH JOINS SOL RALLY BARBADOS RETURNEES

Former UK National Rally Champion Roger Duckworth will make his fourth trip to Sol Rally Barbados this year, joining a growing list of returnees spread right through the field in the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international. While he will be fighting at the sharp end, another four regular visitors are confirmed today in the Clubman, Group B and Historic classes.

CREWS MAKE READY FOR VALVOLINE RALLY

As competitors in the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Driver’s and Class Championships start preparations for the upcoming Valvoline Rally (Sunday, April 13), the second of eight rounds this year, there is a three-way tie in the Champion Driver’s title chase between Andrew Mallalieu, Josh Read and Daryl Clarke.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS PRIZE TRIPS FOR VOLUNTEERS

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has stepped up its worldwide promotion of Sol Rally Barbados 2014 by joining forces with event organisers on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In association with the island’s private-sector Tourism Development Corporation (TDC), the Club is offering three motor sport volunteers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international.

Spring Blaze Results

"As per ASR item 18:  all competitors must be given the opportunity to contest at lease two official timed runs.

In this instance, the course had to be closed before all competitors were afforded this opportunity and only one timed run was recorded In light of this the organiser have decided to cancel the second running of this stage, Blackman’s To Tappy Pond.

Spring Blaze News: Ian Warren in huge crash, Maloney's engine gone on first event

While official results are being confirmed, the news from the event centres around Ian 'Wee Wee' Warren's nightmare crash in the second-half of the event. Running from Blackman's to Tappy Pond and locked in an epic battle with Josh Read, Ian Warren drifted slightly wide in his Suzuki Swift and cut down a telegraph pole at the side of the road.

IRISH DRIVER OF THE YEAR FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

One of Northern Ireland’s most flamboyant – and successful – rear-wheel-drive exponents, Frank Kelly, will rally in the Caribbean twice in 2014, to experience both gravel and tarmac events. Tomorrow (Saturday), he flies south to prepare for the flowing loose-surface stages of Rally Trinidad the following weekend, and will return just a few weeks later to compete in the region’s biggest annual motor sport international, Sol Rally Barbados.

Maloney's new Peugot 306

Photos posted to Facebook and by Zhaust show a new arrival in Barbados - a works Peugot 306 Maxi. Arriving by air, courtesy of Virgin Atlantic, this is surely destined for the Maloney camp. This will make quite an interesting addition to the already hard-fought Super-Modified 10 (or will it be 11?) class.

FRIDAY NIGHT START FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2014

Sol Rally Barbados, the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international, will enjoy a major refresh for 2014, as the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) marks the 25th running of its blue riband event. Crews will need to be on their toes from the start, as the weekend’s action kicks off with a new Friday night SuperSpecial, one of three Power Stages over the weekend.

‘THE SHERIFF’ DOUBLES UP AT SOL RALLY BARBADOS

There will be two Sheriffs in town come Sol Rally Barbados 2014, when Scottish driver Brian ‘The Sheriff’ Watson arrives with his Audi quattro S1 and ‘Deputy’, co-driver Caroline Will. The welcoming party at the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international will naturally include Roger ‘The Sheriff’ Skeete, 12-time winner of the island’s premier event.
