CARS ON THE SEA FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

2017 Rally Club thanks tireless Portsmouth volunteers

Having off-loaded fruit and other exports from around the Caribbean, the Geest Line freighter Benguela Stream set sail from Portsmouth in England on Tuesday (April 25) carrying a shipment of 31 rally cars from the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe bound for Sol Rally Barbados 2017. After a 10-day trans-Atlantic voyage, the ship will off-load its precious cargo at the Bridgetown Port . . . including a 45-year-old ex-works Ford Escort MkI, which has undergone a bare-shell rebuild for a nostalgic trip to Barbados.

PANTON WINS AUTOMOTIVE ART SHAKEDOWN STAGES

Close competition augurs well for Flow KotH and Sol RB17

Jamaica’s Jeff Panton and Mike Fennell won Sunday’s (April 23) Automotive Art Shakedown Stages in their Rubis/Sandals Barbados/KIG Ford Focus WRC06, despite a 10-second penalty for a late restart after lunch. The opening round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Driver’s and Class Championships, the 10-stage, 37-kilometre event was the final test before Flow King of the Hill and Sol Rally Barbados, and close competition throughout the field augurs well for a repeat.
