CARS ON THE SEA FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

2017 Rally Club thanks tireless Portsmouth volunteers

Having off-loaded fruit and other exports from around the Caribbean, the Geest Line freighter Benguela Stream set sail from Portsmouth in England on Tuesday (April 25) carrying a shipment of 31 rally cars from the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe bound for Sol Rally Barbados 2017. After a 10-day trans-Atlantic voyage, the ship will off-load its precious cargo at the Bridgetown Port . . . including a 45-year-old ex-works Ford Escort MkI, which has undergone a bare-shell rebuild for a nostalgic trip to Barbados.

Twelve crews are making final preparations for the second round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari & Safari Novice Championships, which is set for this Saturday (April 29). Postponed from earlier this month, the Chefette April Safari will start and finish at the restaurant chain’s Wildey, St Michael, outlet.

Campbell joins Suzuki Challenge Series Swift Cup

Justin Campbell is Team Rock Hard Cement’s new signing, having won a Drive-Off at Bushy Park Barbados earlier this month. He will line up on the Swift Cup grid when the third Suzuki Challenge Series kicks off at the John ‘Tiny’ Harrison Memorial Raceday (May 6/7) at the St Philip facility.

Close competition augurs well for Flow KotH and Sol RB17

Jamaica’s Jeff Panton and Mike Fennell won Sunday’s (April 23) Automotive Art Shakedown Stages in their Rubis/Sandals Barbados/KIG Ford Focus WRC06, despite a 10-second penalty for a late restart after lunch. The opening round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Driver’s and Class Championships, the 10-stage, 37-kilometre event was the final test before Flow King of the Hill and Sol Rally Barbados, and close competition throughout the field augurs well for a repeat.

Scrutineering at Automotive Art Welches Saturday afternoon

Three-time winner of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event, Jamaica’s Jeff Panton starts his preparations for Sol Rally Barbados 2017 in earnest on Sunday (April 23), seeded at number one for the Automotive Art Shakedown Stages. The 38-car running order was confirmed at last night’s (Thursday) Briefing Meeting at Copacabana, Bay Street, for what is now round one of the BRC Driver’s and Class Championships.

McCartney leads BPMSI into second round at Bushy Park

Devan McCartney is the early leader of the Champion Driver title chase as Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI) prepares for round two of its 2017 Championship, to be staged at the John ‘Tiny’ Harrison Memorial Raceday at Bushy Park Barbados on Saturday & Sunday, May 6/7. BPMSI will again share the weekend with the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD), as it presents Launch Control, round 2.

Automotive Art Shakedown Stages on Sunday

Scotland will be represented by seven crews in Sol Rally Barbados 2017, following today’s (April 18) announcement of three further entries, which bring the number of overseas cars confirmed for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event to 35 and the entry in the four-wheel-drive classes to 22.

Stage Rally Champion Smith heads for Caribbean celebration

Despite a shakedown at last Sunday’s (April 9) Alan Healy Memorial Rally at Cadwell Park not going entirely to plan, former UK National Rally Champion Roger Duckworth has confirmed he will compete in Sol Rally Barbados for the seventh consecutive year in his ex-Juha Kankkunen Intrinsys Subaru Impreza WRC S6. Confirmation of Duckworth and newcomer Brandon Smith brings to 32 the total of overseas crews now committed to the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

French marque Citroen, winner of eight World Rally Championship titles since 2003, has rarely been represented in the 27-year history of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event. But that is about to change, with today’s (April 7) confirmation of a quartet of Citroens for Sol Rally Barbados 2017, bringing to 30 the total of overseas crews now committed to the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

‘MAD-DALE’ RACKS UP SOL RALLY BARBADOS AIR MILES

60th Anniversary celebrations to reflect BRC’s founding values

Island fan favourite, British BMW driver Martin ‘Mad-dale’ Stockdale, will have flown more than 140,000 miles in return trips across the Atlantic when he lands at London Gatwick in early June after competing in Sol Rally Barbados 2017 . . . and that’s more than 12 days in the air. This is his 17th straight appearance in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event, which he, wife Glenis and family have not missed since 2001.
