New rivalries in prospect as BKA season starts

When the 2024 Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship gets under way at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday (February 4), new rivalries will be forged as returning drivers move up through the classes and newcomers join the entry. Sunday’s UpBeat Wholesale Raceday, scheduled for an 9.00 am start, is the first of nine rounds between now and November.

Cousins Zak and Jacob Mayers, who finished first and second in the Easykart 60cc Cadets class last year, are both moving up to the 100cc Juniors, as is former Cadet Champion Aeden Bruce, who finished third. Among others, they will now race against last year’s Overall Champion Driver Daniel Ullyett, who remains to defend the class title he won for the first time last year.

Blake Thompson and Raizer Stoute, who finished second and third to Ullyett in 100cc Juniors last year, are moving up to 125cc Lights, where the opposition will be led by Reigning Champion Calem Maloney; having tied on points with Maloney in the overall title chase last year, Thompson will now be racing head-to-head with him in the same class, along with Sebastian Thompson, who finished third last season.

Mark Thompson and Cody Mark will renew their rivalry in the 125cc Easykart Masters class, while the newcomers for the season-opener include Shamir Eversley, who joins the 60cc Cadets class, in which Jaydn Brathwaite, who finished fourth last year, returns for another season. Eversley’s father Shawn has competed at Bushy Park in both circuit and drag racing, also in closed-road rallies and speed events.
