Three of the island’s motor sport clubs are organising back-to-back weekends of action at Bushy Park Barbados, following some recent changes to the Barbados Motoring Federation’s (BMF) calendar. Starting this Sunday (June 30) with Drag Racing, followed by Circuit Racing and Time Attack (July 7) and Autocross (July 13), there is a broad cross-section of disciplines on offer.
Since the events of BCIC Rally Barbados, which finished at the St Philip facility on Sunday, June 2, the island’s sporting focus has been on the T20 World Cup, but with the Semi-Finals and Finals just days away, preparations are in hand for motor sport to resume in earnest. Last Sunday (June 23), the Barbados Karting Association (BKA) ran the fifth round of its Sectus Technologies Championship, the final event before the club’s seven-week summer break.
This Sunday (June 30), a week earlier than originally slated, the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) takes to the quarter-mile drag strip for the third round of their 2024 Championship, Drag Rivals: Return of the Titans. The meeting is scheduled to run from 2.00pm to 6.00pm; general admission with parking outside - $25 for adults, with children 12 and under free.
The following Sunday (July 7), the Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) returns for its second visit at the venue this year with a full day of Circuit Racing and Time Attack. In addition to BARL’s own classes, there will be races for drivers from the Vaucluse Raceway Motorsport Club’s (VRMSC) BimmaCup. Gates open at 8:30 am; admission - $25 for Pits, $20 for The Hill and Clubhouse, with children 12 and under free ($10 extra to park inside).
Brought forward a week from its planned date, the third round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Autocross Championship will now take place on Saturday, July 13. Forty drivers have participated in this grass roots discipline already this season, with two tied in the lead of the Championship standings. David Anthony Balgobin (BimmaCup) and Stephen Nicholls (Nissan March) each has 30 points after two wins in the 2wd Street Tyres and 2wd Race Tyres classes respectively.
