Rallying mourns loss of ‘Rally Granny’ Biddy Barber

Island motor sport enthusiasts of all generations are mourning the loss of Brigid ‘Biddy’ Barber, who passed away at home yesterday (Tuesday) aged 75. Her active role in the sport began when she joined the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) as a 17-year-old in the 1960s and lasted well into her 70s, her passion and encouragement, particularly for newcomers, earning her the affectionate nickname ‘Rally Granny’.

Dates set for Rally2 and circuit racing E-Sports

Caribbean Sim Motorsport (CSM) has confirmed a calendar of 14 events for sim racing enthusiasts to contest between September and the end of the year. Key among these is the third season of its E-Sports companion series to the Barbados Rally2 Championship, which is administered by the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) and sponsored by CIBC Caribbean and Ace H & B Hardware.

Two wins for Maloney in rain-affected BRC Double Header

Stuart Maloney drew closer to a second Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Champion Driver title on Sunday (August 25), winning both directions of the BRC Summer Sprint. His closest rival before the weekend Chris Hoad, who lost the title to Maloney after tie-break rules were invoked in 2021, shared the Clubman 2 class wins with Allan Kinch, so drifted a couple of points further behind.

Points shake-up on the cards in BRC Double Header

With two points-scoring opportunities on offer, Sunday’s (August 25) Double-Header Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Summer Sprint could be a turning point in the 2024 BRC Driver’s & Class Championships. As the season draws to a close, with November’s Winter Rally the only further round, Sunday’s results will play a major part in the outcome of the chase for the Champion Driver title, also for victory in the 10 contested classes.

BCIC RB24 winner Maloney leads BRC Championship

Following his victory on last month’s BCIC Rally Barbados, Stuart Maloney leads the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Champion Driver title chase after five out of eight rounds. More than 70 drivers have scored points as the 2024 BRC Driver’s & Class Championships passed the half-way point and some close battles are brewing, with eight class-leaders and five former Champion Drivers currently in the overall top 10.

Dates announced for BCIC Rally Barbados 2025

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has announced the dates for the 35th edition of its premier event. Subject to final ratification by the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF), BCIC Rally Barbados 2025 will run from Friday, May 30 to Sunday, June 1, with The Rally Show and King of the Hill, the final shakedown and seeding event, on May 24 and 25.

Karters eager for the restart after summer break

After seven weeks away from the track, drivers in the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship are eager to return to Bushy Park Barbados this Sunday (August 11) to start the second half of their season. Browne wins pilot BMF Smart Driving Challenge

Tarik Browne is the first local winner in the worldwide FIA Smart Driving Challenge (SDC). Thanks to support from CG United Insurance Ltd, he has won a staycation at Coral Mist Beach Hotel in Worthing as the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) steps up its commitment to the worldwide campaign to decarbonise road transport and develop safer, more considerate driving habits.

Wood wins as BimmaCup headlines BARL at Bushy Park

Four hard-fought BimmaCup races were the highlights of the Barbados Auto Racing League’s (BARL) second visit of the season to Bushy Park Barbados last Sunday (July 7). Winner of two of the four races, Ryan Wood overcame a first-lap spin in the day’s final race to top the category points for the day, while David Small is now the provisional leader of the overall BARL Championship with two class wins.

Records broken at Chefette MudDogs June Safari

Records were broken at the Chefette MudDogs June Safari last weekend (June 29/30). Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal claimed the first hat-trick of victories in the 67-year history of the event, and did so by one of the smallest-ever margins, while the youngest crew to participate in decades, Charles Clarke and Austin Barber, won Class B.
