Busy season of motor sport ahead for Barbados

Nearly 50 events to be organised by the seven sporting Member Clubs of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) are listed on the BMF’s Approved 2016 Calendar, published today (February 11). The first two have already been run, with the remaining dates stretching until the last weekend of November.

  A broad cross-section of motor sport disciplines is covered, from grass-roots autocross through circuit racing for cars, karts and motorcycles and drag racing to off-road 4x4 navigational events, rallycross, rallysprints, special stage rallies and speed events.

BADD & BKA action at Bushy Park Barbados Sunday

The Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) will return to the much-favoured day/night format at Bushy Park on Sunday (July 5), when it stages Summernight Warz, round two of the club’s 2015 Drag Warz series - slated to start at 3.30pm, it will run into the night to a finish time of around 8.00pm, with Practice in the afternoon, Qualifying just before sundown and the Eliminations under floodlights.

Bushy Park Barbados launches Karting Experience

Bushy Park Barbados welcomed the first participants for its new Karting Experience at the weekend, as part of an on-going programme to develop an ever-broader range of circuit activities on offer to regular competitors, the wider community and visitors to the island. Approximately 100 people turned up to drive the recently-imported Birel karts on a purpose-built track in sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

Record-breaking 2015 motor sport season for Barbados

The opening round of the Barbados Karting Association’s (BKA) Frutee Championship at Bushy Park last Sunday (February 8) launched what promises to be a bumper season of island motor sport, with a record-breaking programme of events scheduled to be run under the umbrella of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF).

BKA honours its Champions

The Barbados Karting Association’s 2014 Frutee Championship Awards Presentation in January was the first such occasion hosted in the new Bushy Park Barbados Clubhouse.

Nicholas Gill, winner of the Yamaha 310 Premier Class and BKA Champion Driver for 2014, was just one of nearly 40 competitors and volunteers whose achievements or commitment to the sport were recognised, while BKA Chairman Stephen Mayers thanked the Club’s for their continued support.

Easykarts start new Barbados ladder of opportunity

This week’s official launch of Easykart Barbados marks the completion of phase one of a rolling programme to establish a ladder of opportunity that its creators hope will one day result in a Barbadian winning a motor racing World Championship, following in the wheel-tracks of karting graduates such as Lewis Hamilton and Sebastien Vettel.

Packed programme for Digicel Williams International

More than 30 races are planned for next month's Digicel Williams International Race Meet (July 5/6), the first to be staged at the redeveloped Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados. Feature events of the two-day meet, organised by the new Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI), will be the opening rounds of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship 2014/15.

SOL RALLY BARBADOS REWARDS SPORT’S VOLUNTEERS

  Volunteer marshals and officials working on the Cartell.ie Killarney Rally of the Lakes in Ireland next month will have the chance to win a trip to Sol Rally Barbados 2013 (June 1/2), courtesy of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC), organisers of the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

MOTOR SPORT VOLUNTEERS PRAISED FOR COMMITMENT

Senior motor sport volunteers keen to enhance their skill sets were praised at the weekend as they assembled for a pre-season training programme organised by the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) and majority funded by the sport’s world governing body, the Federation Internationale d’Automobile (FIA).   In his welcome address, Chairman of the Board of the National Sports Council, Seibert Straughan, said: “I am delighted that the international governing body continues to be supportive of our development as a motor sporting nation.
