BKA Championship standings set for shake-up

BKA Championship standings set for shake-up

The holiday season is now under way and the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship is set for a shake-up. A number of front-runners are missing from the entry list for round three, the Crane & Equipment Raceday, which will run off at Bushy Park Barbados this Sunday (July 2).

Among the absentees are reigning Champion Driver Calem Maloney, who leads the 125cc Lights class and the overall standings this year, and the Mayers cousins Zak and Jacob, who are first and third respectively in the 60cc Cadet class.

Overall competitor numbers are maintained, however, with entries from one newcomer to the BKA, Jeevan Panjwani, who will race in the 125cc Lights class and four drivers not yet seen this year, bringing the number of participants across the season’s first three rounds to 30. Back for the first time since 2022 are Sameer Bulbulia, Colin Clarke, Ahmed Esuf – fresh from his blue and purple tyre-smoking Modified 3 victory in Sol Rally Barbados – and Jayden Thompson.

Aeden Bruce, who led the championship standings after the UpBeat Wholesale Race Day in March, but lost out to Calem Maloney in round two, sponsored by Williams Equipment, is the meat in the Mayers sandwich in the 60cc Cadet class, so certainly stands to benefit from their absence. That said, classes that are not fully subscribed are subject to reduced points scores, and with only two Cadet entries, the calculations are not that simple.

Returnees Bulbulia and Thompson, plus newcomer Panjwani, boost numbers in the 125cc Lights class to nine, with some close racing in prospect, while Clarke and Esuf bring the 125cc Masters entries to five, the most this year.
